Box for 15 SX, 4cuft 32Hz. Heres the sub going in it with the amp powering it-

Ahhh...the smell of mdf in the morning-

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v257/Insomniac119/sub013.jpg

It was basically built into two different parts. This one-

and this one-

Having the sub straddle the gap like that is going to be a major, major weak spot.

You really want the baffle to be structurally solid.

I put them together to make this :D -

How about some braces as close as possible to the opening?

You should of had the baffle sit on top of the sides, instead of flush.

Take a look at your second picture from the bottom. What I'd do is lay a piece of MDF flat on that bottom piece, and see if the basket on the sub will clear that hole with that piece right there. If it does, screw down that piece to the floor, then screw the woofer into the baffle with longer screws- 2" drywalls should suffice, that way it catches into that extra piece and provides more support. I wouldn't leave it the way it is- other then that, construction looks good.

How does it sound at 32hz? Thinking about tuning my next box to that.

Insomniac119

Sense everyone seemed worried that the sub would destroy the box, I put in some braces, 4 traingles-

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v257/Insomniac119/sub023.jpg

And I mounted them like this-

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v257/Insomniac119/sub024.jpg

And then I jizzed alover the inside of the box because it's just so ****-

wont those angles effect the air flow?

saywhat?
09-24-2005, 05:53 PM
if anything......direct it back to the port....... but i dont know for sure.

as long as you used plenty of glue, and put some screws close to where that sub sits, i guess that box will be fine.

take those braces displacement into effect?

no **** lol...why make a baffle in two pieces...

mikescanlon
09-24-2005, 08:03 PM
nice construction.. if that box doesn't fall apart.

i say put it in your car and crank it for about 10 minutes, if it doesn't fall apart, or sound like ****, keep it : )

looks like good construction meathod and techniques... but is it for a small trunk space or something where it had to be that small of a hieght?

if it falls apart.. you could easily build another one, like i said, nice technique.

I'm sure it will look pretty decent once its covered with fabric or vinyl.
as far as sound goes, if it was designed right it will still kick ***.
the bracing idea was good since that front baffle looks a little weak, but i don't think it will give you any problems since your sub is also sitting on the top and bottom piece.

it isn't ideal to have the sub mounted across the joint..

Because my trunk isn't very deap, and I was worried that even 16" tall would hit the lid. Plus, the shorter the hight of the port the shorter the length of the port. It's 15.625" tall. I've been playing it all day long as max volume and no signes of weakness and the sub sounds great and really loud. I'm going to keep it.

Oh, btw lemans, your kinda being a dck head. Lets see you build a better box.

you can search if you like ;)

i'm telling u that a dual baffle setup will not be strong and regardless it isn't smart to have the subwoofer span the gap.

Why does everyone say Lemans makes crappy enclosures? From what I have seen, they are not bad at all, the only thing is they are no works of art. They are designed well and built well, he just doesnt care how they look....

umm are them actual pics lemans? if so then I have to counter tony demarco by saying the one in the right is really not structurally sound at all just look at the left side of it. and before you say where is my box a quick search will show my first box which busts all these boxes up :D and my second one is on here too (fiberglass).

as for the original poster, looks pretty good considering your space constraints I dont see you having a problem.
