Say I want to put plexiglass on the back of my sub box so I could see inside the box and look at the subs. My question will it affect my sound quality? I mean, is it as good as mdf for making a box? Also how would I seal it to the box?

its supposed to be just as good, as long as you use 1/2 inch or thicker.

keep in mind I have no personal experience with this :)

If the thickness is right for the power your pushing and the size of the panel, you can't hear a difference. You can either recess it from the front or the back. From the back looks cleaner imho. And like the man said Silicon that beeyatch. :)

1/2" plexi isn't going to be all that cheap anyway depending upon the size of the sheet. It's some pretty pricey chit :)

I've seen peopl use spartec acrylic, its a LOT stronger then plexi glass so you can use thinner pices and its a lot clearer too. Just another option for you guys, i have no idea on how much it costs though.

On the subject of plexiglass.... Can you form it? (I'm always looking to do something different.) Say for example, building a enclosure that has "rounded" sides but want to maintain the transparency of plexiglass. No specific design in mind, just brainstorming. I would think that if you were using thicker material, heating it up would burn it or discolor it before it would become pliable enough to form.
Any thoughts??

You can heat and bend plexi. That's the best way to strengthen a piece of plexi. Just go slow :)

I'm watching some lexan glass on ebay right now :D

Think I might have to do away with the mirror idea and just paint the inside of the box nicely

We used to paint the inside of the box gloss whte. Then use blacklight paint and paint logo's designs or what have ou one the inside of the box. Then when we cut out the whole We left a lip a couple of inches all the way around to support the glass. It also gave plenty of room to hide a lovely little blacklight to make our designs glow. Every once in a while I would get a wild hair up my butt and etch designs on the plexi and edge light it with neon to make the etched design glow. Just some thoughts :)

Yeah, thats what my plan is, well almost. To paint inside of the box white. But, the rest of what you said, may be beyond my ability. Im not an artist at all so etching may be difficult. Now only if I had a computerized etcher :D

You can get etching done at almost any trophy shop my brother. I myself have trouble drawing stick people :D :)

are they friggin stoned. haha yeah i saw that too and was shocked but....
it is 3inch plexi... I mean the rest is reasonably priced I guess, thick plexiglass is expensive, its not the 1/8inch lexan **** at home depot, plexiglass is spendy.. If I was looking to do 3/4" plexi in my trunk i would expect to spend around $250-300.
