Okay, well no pics as of yet. I will start construction tomorrow when I get home from school. Hopefully I can work fast and get this **** done before I lose daylight.

Anyway, I will be making my first vented enclosure. As some of you have noticed, getting the calculations for this thing was a pain in the ***... But I am finally happy.

So I have one last question before construction, where should I mount the sub in the box? To elaborate, I know it will be in the front, but does it matter where in the front, (i.e. centered, all the way left/right)?

1.) Doesn't matter, whatever works cosmetically for you.

2.) It's "Thread", not "Thred".

I would suggest the center, it looks better and more organized.

I know that right end doesnt quite line up, I didnt have time to knock off the extra ~1/2" or so before it started pouring... I will hopefully be able to finish it up, or get close, tomorrow before work. Let me guys know what you think.

looks good-2.5 cubic feet tuned to 35hz?

PhatTonyDeMarco

its 2.9 net tuned to 40Hz. I tuned high, not sure if its too high, but I am only using one sub so I want all the SPL I can get.

Question... The external dimensions for this box are 36" by 13" by 17.5". I took internal dimensions, and multiplied them together, (35.25 x 12.25 x 16.75, right?) And I got ~7232.86". So then I divided this by a cubic foot (1728 inches), and got 4.185 cubic feet... Is this correct?? I am guessing I am doing something wrong here, because the box calculator said 2.9 cubes, and the box looks way too small to be a 4 cube box...

saywhat?

subtract 1.5 inches from teh external numbers. 34.5x11.5x16=3.67 before ANY displacement.

God, I know you all hate me but...

There is the box I am making. I was thinking about it, and am not sure about the 40Hz tune.. What could I do to brign the tuning down to about 37Hz, could I just add to the port length? Will there be any noticable difference between these two tunings?

Bump, need this by tomorrow when I finish this ****.

to lower the freq, lengthen the port,

now,
as far as how much of a difference changing the tunning freq by several hz is going to make.
i think!!!!! that's more related with what particular sub you re using.

where does the sub feels more comfortable tuned at, type thing.

use WinISD, if you are not already. youll get a close idea of the output of the sub in that particular box.

My sub is not located in the WinISD sub listings.

you can add youre sub t/s parameters.
and build your box.

what sub is it?

you can add them

PhatTonyDeMarco
09-03-2005, 10:57 AM
Yeah I added it, the sub is a Mmats Dreadnaut.

It said to have 22" of port length for a tuning of 37Hz, so I added an 8.5" piece to the end of the port wall (at a 90 degree angle.)

I'm curios as if you saw any big changes in regards to spl and frequency response, from one tuned port to the other while using winISD?.

I'm carpeting it right now, I am having trouble with the sides. Anyone have any tips? I read on another forum's tutorial that I should fold the carpet at 45 degree angles, and slice, but I dont understand that.. Let me see if I can find that tutorial.

looks very f******g good, that tutorial pretty much explains it all, the hard part is the corners, if you have some spare carpet, practice doing the corners on scrap pieces of wood and youll get the idea.

well it isn't shady i guess, but it is kinda laminated on the surface (u have to sand it down to make it rough so that the glue and adhesives bond better).

Okay, and the finished product... I have found out that carpeting is hardger than it looks :(. I dont think it looks horrible, but at the same time its not "good". But its just a first box, so I shall learn...
