Hey I want some box ideas. I have two 15" kicker L7s (dvc2) running off an orion 2500d. I want a ported box mainly for spl...I have an 05 ford expedition. What do you guys recommend?

with that type of vehicle you should definitely be able to fit a large box...

I assume you should be looking anywhere from 4-6 cubes per driver

Me and Chinny were looking at something like 9cubic ft for both subs. Should I put both subs in one box or two different boxes or it doesnt really matter?

It really doesn't matter, but building one box with two sepereate chambers will add extra support and if one sub ever blows or anything you can still use the box...

If im looking for mainly SPL what should I tune the box to? (hz)

you need to get the resonant frequency of your car to say for sure. different frequencies have different effects in each car.

I thought that was for competition boxes only....

Are you going to be competing? If so, you have to do what ruckus says...

If this is just a daily driver and you are going for mostly spl, Id reccomend 35-40hz

I was looking at people's setups that compete alot and I see they run alot of boxes at 40hz or higher. I want to compete but I do use this also for daily driving. Why wouldnt something above 40hz be good for daily driving?

I use 40hz on memphis subs and it is fine. but you cant have it both ways if you tune for daily driving you wont compete in Miami. your class you would be in, people are hitting 150+ all day long and you aint doing that with 2 l7 subs @ 35hz. and you actually would get a higher score with a single L7 than 2 from what ive been reading lately.

My friend hit 150spl yesterday at 305 vibes and rides with two L7s running 800rms to each in a sealed box.

45 wont sound too good for daily driving. I wouldnt go above 40hz for daily driving. if your just gonna compete then your looking into something in the 50hz range depending on your cars r.f. its trial and error. (thats why i like flared precision ports, you can tune em and cut shorter to tune deeper. )

what meter, what car, location of meter? 150 in a sealed on 2 l7 doesnt quite sound right. 145 yes but 150 sounds a little much.

Why do you say that it isnt good for daily driving? Is it just because the bass will sound bad? It won't be as reliable or somethin? Explain...

Because the SQ will ****. Peaky frequency response, lots of overhang; pretty much a "one-noted wonder" :)

What would you do if you were in my situation? Right now I have:
two 15" kicker L7s
orion 2500d amp
0 gauge wire
(looking for boxes of course)

He just wants to go death and be able to go over 150... i told him id make him a 7.8cuft @ 36hz... hes already running an 2500d at .5 to both his L7's giving them each roughly around 1200w... no need to have such a huge box... he wanted to tune to 45's but i told him i didnt want him farting in the streets

he wants it to kill him? or Def?

Why would he fart? farting sound is from ****** port construction not tuning. Tunning to 45hz will make the sound peaky and miss alot of notes but it wont sound farty.

if you were to read back a few messages you would see that he did say 40 hz. A tune from 35 - 40 is ideal for daily driving. These guys aren't lying to you man. Unfortunatley, daily's and compete's are constructed different.... This has been explained already so I'm not going to re-explain it. But Chinny seems to know what he's doin, and we all have his back to help out. Moral of the story > figure out what you want and start listening to someone.

Sorry if that came across rude, just being front about it

I know what I want, I told Chinny since you guys recommend 40hz being the highest for us to use for a daily driver to lets do 40hz instead of 35 but he said that I shouldn't do that. Thats why I reposted asking if 40hz is ok because for whatever reason he doesn't want to do 40hz. I dont mind loosing SQ. Like I told him I want more SPL than SQ but im also going to be using this as a daily driver, also.

Is it true that I don't need a box bigger than 7.8 cubic ft since the subwoofers are already going to be taking about 1200rms each from the orion amp? Would it help if I made the box bigger, maybe 9 cubic ft?

have it built with a port plug so u can change the frequency for daily and comps....like 35Hz for daily and 55Hz for comps......again those are just general #'s...someone with experience with ur car andf those subs will give u a better idea of what exactly to tune to
