Recently around here folded horn boxes are becomming more popular. Its funny cuz I dont thnk these boxes are really folded horn. I have not seen plans for these so called "folded horn" designs, but the boxes that have clamed to be folded horn are small (folded horn is very large). One "folded horn" box was for one 10, and its about the size I would port ONE 10" in. Another one has 3 fosgates in it, and is still small, especially for 3 10" subs in it. And it doesnt sound as loud as I would imagine an acual folded horn enclosure to be. I never did, unfortently, ask who told them that the box they bought was a folded horn.

WTF?

The original plans was a very large enclosure, back a while ago, when they started out.

Then what's the problem? The Decware folded horn is ~20 cubes. They don't offer any horn enclosures besides the Imperial. They mostly deal in unique bandpass enclosures.

Decware has a folded horn box called the Wicked One. Here is one I made. It is a mini version. I used two 3" speakers. Sounded OK for the size of it. Its ugly as sin, but here is a picture of it before I put the top on.

OK compared to what? Did you make a ported one and sealed one for them, too, or just plan IB or free air?

Yea, and the "folded horn" boxes around here look just like a ported.

One of them lookes exactly like this, and that DOES NOT look like folded horn.

Maybe you're confusing it with a quarter-wave transmission line...which will look like a big ported box on the outside.

Horn-loaded speakers are nothing new :)

although these people are saying their box is folded horn, and it looks just like that pic i posted up as an example. SO I think whoever is building and sellin these boxes are full of ****.

Yes...if they're saying they're folded horn enclosures. But they might be tuned quarter-wave t-lines, who knows. Most likely you're right; they're full of ****.

Ask to see one being assembled.

The boxes arnt big, just about a standard size of a ported box, so they arnt quarter-wave transmission line enclosures, either.

ok, so review...

1) They are full of **** about having folded horns
2) Folded horn enclosures are very large (around 20 cubes)
3) "Wicked Ones" are another type of folded horn, but still large
4) Quarter-wave transmission lines appear to be long ported boxes,

So in other words, unless you have a huge *** vehicle, you dont have a folded horn enclosure in you car's trunk.

Correct?

i think the idea behind a quarter wave or transmission line is to make a small speaker sound bigger, by doubling the out put of the speaker by wave length calculations, and the length of the port, or folding of the port makes the box pretty big. i might be wrong.
ether way, they weren't meant to be placed in a car.
if you do want one in a car you can. but most likely have to go with a small sub 8" , the box will still be big, unless you go with the "snail shell" design or something like that, i know there is a guy on sounddomain.com with some cool designs for these king of applications and big sub 15" and the box is a pretty decent size. i have never heard one of his boxes.
but he states that they are pretty loud, these guys are selling them, powered4sound (http://www.powered4sound.com/)
