I was wondering if you guys could name a few good HU without an internal amp. I just thought it would be a whole lot better just to run an external 4 channel amp.

just because a head unit has an amp inside it, doesnt mean you have to USE it. ;)
I dont use mine.

Most headunits come with amps, only a few of the really expensive ones dont.

eclipse 8053 is the only one that comes to mind, but i know there are others

Clarion DRX9255 or the newer DRZ9255
Alpine 7998, 7995, and a few others.

Ugh, I'm drawing a blank. I know theres a couple more. Isn't the RF "Denford" unit a deadhead?

Eclipse cd8051/8061/8052/8062/8053......and going way back, the ecd-415
alpine 7995
clarion hx-d10
RF 8250
clarion 9255

to name a few

yeah rf has one..the only reason that the headunit do not have amps is keep the heat and the noise down in the cd player. And most of the time when they take away the amp they add stuff like bur brown D/A converts.

My last HU (Kenwood Excelon X879) had the option to turn off it's internal amp. I didn't notice a difference when it was in my truck, but that truck was loud and hid some of the subtle points of the music.

The P9 Pioneer has no internal amp I believe... It's quite expensive though
