OK time to start the build
u can see pics of the sub here: (about 10+ pics by the end of the thread)
http://forums.caraudio.com/vb/showthread.php?t=112231

the box being built(designed by epicenterdesigns) is going to have an internal net of 6.9 cubes
after displacement of the sub/port it will be around 3cubes per sub.
The box is going to be tuned to 45hz with a port plug that will tune it to 30hz and an additional plug for if id like to go to 35hz with the box.
There were going to be mods to the box, consisting of 45 degree angles at every corner, but since ive heard good things and bad things ive decided not to. I rather see no gain from not having them, then seeing a loss from having them!
I will be resining the inside of the box 2/3 coats. wich will come to about 1/16th or 1/8th inch of resin :) (will bring that 3cubes down alittle)

ok so lets get the ****in show on the road....

time to get the MDF :naughty:
http://photos.yafro.com/pics3/i/20050820/15/0/7/3/0736fbc992f24b00dbcfe980e688ad9b0_full.jpg
i only trust 3 people cutting my wood. My father, Me, and my friend.. wich happens to work at lowes. worked out perfect to get the MDF then :)

now its time to go threw it and see what will be used and what will be scrap.
heres the pile of scrap i pulled out of that pile
http://photos.yafro.com/pics3/i/20050820/15/5/6/1/5615304b070f6bc535ca327b79284a200_full.jpg

now all the wood is seperated. i made it nice and neat, and wrote what they are on them so i dont get lost, lol

ok here is a pic of the layout.
The box is going to be CRX style (subs up, ports back)
The box is going in the back of a 95' Chevy 4 door blaze. The box is being built to be a Custom daily driver. wich can become an SPL BEAST:D

front shot of the inside for everyone
http://photos.yafro.com/pics3/i/20050820/15/a/3/a/a3a825ce7f2fea3d195249a236d069b30_full.jpg

better view, a side shot
http://photos.yafro.com/pics3/i/20050820/15/4/7/4/47473694fab2fe0f7ca05c23747e90f30_full.jpg

and this is the back of the blaze
recently purchased 4 seats from a 2002 blaze. wich are in right now.
The trucks interior color is Tan, i hate tan... Turning everything to charcoal/black in the next week. with alittle tweed and glue;)
the pic is the back half mated with some ED V1se.
http://photos.yafro.com/pics3/i/20050814/16/6/0/2/60262b85f823c660ac1350961cfb40e50_full.jpg

the box will be practically flush to the rear. It will flow all well and hide the (2) 8004's on each corner of the box for the mids/highs. the 2500D (wich hope to purchase 2 1200's eventually) will be a floating amp infront of the CRX box.

building of the box will begin tomorrow:up2somet:

just makes the box stronger.
absorbes into the MDF for no leaks.
brings up the tuning alittle aswell.

you arent going to gain any real strength with resin... however it does seal well.

I like how this is coming along. :) I might do something like that with my talon with a single 15" :) Having the sub firing up and the port going back :) Instead of the sub firing up and the port going forwards :)

Looks nice, quick suggestion. You can mix a hotbatch of resin, apply it over the resin that is taking for ever. And bother layers will dry alot quicker. Just don't mix it too hot it will crack like a beeyatch. :)

it varies so much.

L7's are known for getting quieter in a fart box as you play em more and more...

but my type R 15 started at a 145 first burp... and got louder and louder every burp until it hit what it hit on the site, oddly enough my highest number was when a cam was runnin!

i doubt this box will number that well... u have to master multiple sub setups like this, its not easy.

Doubt this is gonna wang like you want it to - but who knows... good luck with it either way!

yeah but where else would u put a port when u have 4 15's, lol.
I was told the same thing by shane, he told me to go get 4 15's and throw the port in the middle of the subs.
but to broke to even aford MDF right now let alone more audio stuff, hahaha.

once i get a vehicle strictly to SPL I will be buying a TL and hopefully have a good job by then to experiment alot with all different things.

George, shouldn't you rename the topic MTX 7500 box build pics then?!?!

no cause the only reason i was working on this box was because of the competition that got cancelled.
if u look at the first few pages u will see the box for the (2) 9500's.
wich will be finished sometime next week or the week after, not in to much of a rush on that since i still dont have the subwoofer in my hands.

use particle board :)

once u slap resin on it it works better than mdf.

mikescanlon
09-18-2005, 09:03 PM
are you serious about that resin on teh particle board thing?

have any proof? cause particle board is way cheap and i resin every box i make anyways.

Spkrman
09-18-2005, 09:04 PM
proof?

every box I build :)

p-board with the big particles is what you want, much less flex than even comparable sized MDF. Has an earlier breaking point, but you'll never come close to it.

mikescanlon

nice, sounds good, particle board for me from now on : ) i checked out the vids on your site, nice stuff.

just DO NOT get the stuff with the small particles... it has the same flexing properties of MDF but it breaks easier and flexes way more... that stuff is crap, and its why p-board has a bad name.

p-board is also very uneven, so it takes much more to get it painted.

mikescanlon
09-18-2005, 11:00 PM
i'll make boxes like lemans.. who needs carpet/paint.

you can always throw resin on the outside and paint the resin, correct?

ok so i got the amp all hooked up.
pissed me off alittle.

I hooked it all up it worked fine n the treble amp wouldnt work. so i took it out. then i reset the breaker to off, so no flow of power. had to go see my girl for lunch n then turned on the car.
all of a sudden bass.. im like wtf, i pull over n look at everything, nothing is hooked up except the remote wire n the rca's. lol
but i had bass going thru the subs.. weird right.

well n e way switched out the amp and now its all good and working

doesnt seem to loud yet, maybe it has to go thru its full break thru. or it could be because i ****ed up ont he port n now the tuning is aroun 28hz:( but F8ck that u kno how I do
MOVIE TIME :)
30 mins of break in is long enuff for some action:p:

Go To Sleep - http://media.putfile.com/GoToSleep63
camera didnt take 44/45hz to well. just looked like it was jumping. and skipping
will deff take more and will have a full review when i break them in alittle more

will be doing a 32 n a 35 port plug to see the difference.

for those who think this is over.. stay tuned ;) customizing begins sometime in novemeber:naughty:

Eyy man.....you don't like rear firing? It will reflect/bounce better, which i know u know.

Just curious, is the upfiring louder to u?

I'm thinking about getting 3-4 15"s, and to get em to fit some might b back, some slightly up, never tried up.

How would you compare it to back?

cant really tell wich would be louder without a mic. I have heard that facing sub n port back are the loudest. also some poeple say it is best for the mic in kick panel, but it varies in car apps. n since i dont have a mic I cant agree or disagree
but I like the sound of the CRX style box alittle better, but this is all my opinion
I have done various installs with different boxes (not these subs tho) but I kinda like the CRX style cause i can throw stuff in the back without worrying about the **** hitting my subs, and when i turn aroun I get a nice view of them moving:D
I also think it looks cleaner.

Just got back from the dB Drag Finals.. and i must say 80% of the street class boxes were CRX style
