I was reading the customer reviews on crutchfiled, and one guy stated that on the x889 there are no tunable bass/treble controls. He ended up getting the x789 on which he could control the bass/treble. This is very displeasing to me as I was ready to purchase one, and may have to look into something else. Help please

Thanks in advance

well, didnt you have a alpine 7995 in the sign till yesterday or something?!?!

who said that?well if its true than let it go or get a digital processor or an equalizer for it, which i dont recommend... built-in equalization is usually all people need

i guess that person that told u really hasn't played around with it much.... i own one and u can tune the hi/mid/bass on this HU but it just takes time cuz its in the EQ that tunes it 4 band EQ... i love this HU the SQ on it is sweet plus it has setting like jazz, pop, easy, and 3 or so more settin on it. if u dont feel like doin it urself...i no what u mean by.02 bass and treble setting.. but like i said this is the best HU i have ever owned.....

Hope this helps out..02

Yeah, the sq on this hu is so good, you don't need bass trable to be easily adjustable. Once you get this sounding good, it'll sound good on pretty much all music. You're adjusting the PEQ for the in car response, not for each individual type of music. I haven't changed my peq setting for over a month, just set it, and forget it!

I listen to classical, jazz, fusion, pop, progressive rock, rock, punk, new age, reggae, hip hop, pretty much everything but country.

Does this or the x789 have the capability to adjust the Sub volume?

I'm sure it does. My 589 has it so I'm sure the more upscale units also have it.

I own a 789 and like it alot
it has sub control, bass mid and treble as well as crossovers etc
it doesnt have all the features of the 889, but I didnt want all that confusion in my car
I guess im too old school..... the SQ between the 2 units are the same more or less

I've got both the 789 and the 889 units. I can't say enough about the 889. The 789 has a fixed position 3-band eq where as the 889 has a 4-band parametric eq with Q control. With a parametric eq you can change the point where you want to boost or deflate the sound curve, further tuning your sound. The Q control allows you to set the Q (attack and decay) for each of the points you want the eq to be. Also the 889 offers some very impressive DSP effects you can't find on the 789. Because of this, the eq on my 889 is dead flat. The sound quality is downright amazing. I also posted a longer review here on the site under reviews. There are just so many ways to shape the sound on the 889, I'd pay 150 more for those features alone, but that's just me.

Other main difference between the 889 and the 789 is SRS WOW. Both have front and rear crossovers built in, sub level control... all the features you would expect of a 350$ retail plus unit.

I recently got the 25th anniv. edition, supposedly identicle to the 889, and I was wondering why they give you the option to pick sub size? Kind of cool for the door speakers, but if you cross the sub and evertyhing is this just a dead tool?
