For the plate amp for the sub, should I set the gains like the gains on a car amplifier?

I have a dd 8". Is about 1 cube after disp good? And where should the port be firing?

Ill add more as I think of it.

I have no idea :) Contact DD for their recommedations...I assume this box is going to be tuned lower than a regular in-vehicle box?

And where should the port be firing?

Wherever's convienent. The same plane as the sub works, as well as firing it out the back.

Are you downfiring the 8"? That might be a way to get the most out of the smaller driver, output wise...

Hmm I havent thought of downfiring.
For now Ill just do forward firing. I might change it later though

For hookin up the plate amp to the receiver, do i use the preouts or the subwoofer mono output?

But why would you want tubes for HT?

JimJ

For 5.1 or 7.1? Ehh...for the show off factor, I guess. For movies there really isn't a point. I don't think you're as concerned about the SQ of the film ;)

2 channel audio is a different story.

For box finishing, you might want to check out truck bedliner...

The way to apply it would be to prime the box, sand, prime again, sand, prime, sand, oh, did I mention sand? You want to keep decreasing the grit of sandpaper you use, until you get a nice smooth finish...remembering to fill in all the screwholes. After that, put two coats of spray-on truck bedliner on the enclosure. Comes out rather well. Although a properly-done veneer job is also excellent.

no, decrease grit 'til it's shiny, clear, invisible, GONE! j/k
Fan, take a pic....pics, pics.
I'm not a glass guy yet, but my old school Kenwood 2-channel amp is rated at 230rms@8ohms with .008% THD.
Car vs Home - two WAY different environments.
Porting for HT I thought was done REAL low, like 18-20hz to get output, but still able to reproduce 'sub' sonic freq. no?

that doesnt make any sense. you should want to go finer grit everytime...not take off more everytime (that doesn't polish ****)

ok, you and him are just looking at it from different directions
he says decrease the grit as in decrease the roughness of the paper
you say increase the grit as in increase the number rating

it was a joke....see the J/K on the end??? I've done a couple Corian projects that require hi-grit, wet sanding, messsaaaayy.:p:
