Radioshack sales a Digital-Display Sound-Level Meter for $49.99 but it only reads 50-126db spl. link (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F011%5F008%5F004%5F000&product%5Fid=33%2D2055)

is it worth getting?
where can i get one that reads higher? like 174db but for cheap

what's the highest car system db reading out there?

Termlab or AC would work. Termlab is regarded as the most accurate, but it is pricey. If I remember right, they go for about $600.

that's a waste of money. your setup should hit over 126 db's but not 174. best bet is termlab but they are very expensive. just go to a shop and get it metered.

Your best bet for a cheap and somewhat accurate meter would be an Audiocontrol Epic-160. Its a half din unit, not totally accurate but good enough to mess around with and not too expensive. A "real" mic will cost you around $500.
