View Full Version : Eclipse CD8455 vs. CD8454

Ok, I know this question has been asked before, but that last time was in the begining of this year, when the 8455 was not yet avaliable. Now that it is I'm going to ask this question again.

I'm asking because I can get the CD8454 used for a little less than half the retail price of a new CD8455. I also like the look of the CD8454 better (looks less like a play toy to me I guess). I want to know what the difference between the 2 head units is. I'm going to be doing a 3 way active setup with sub and I want an HU that can do all the time alignment, equalizing and crossover duities itself.

Also, if anyone is familiar with a pre-amp head unit that is up to par with the task of running an active 3 way with sub all by itself, then please let me know.

You know what, the 8053 better be able to do what I need it to do cause I just found 3 for a stupidly cheep price.

why not? its a killer deck.....just keep in mind that you should buy it authorized considering its not a current deck for warranty reasons.

Why not what? I'm asking if it can handle a 3 way active setup. And I found it for sale used as well as from that online site. But, if the 8053 is up to par, I'm going to go for the used deck.

I called Eclipse tech support and they said that the only head unit that they make that can handle a 3 way active setup AND a subwoofer is the CD8455. Hmmm............

It seems that the only HU that has everything I need is 500-700 dollars, the CD8455. The CD8053 can't run a 3 way setup active with a sub and can't playback MP3s, but I could probably get one for between 120 and 170 dollars shipped. I dont think I can find a command module, nor am I willing to pay for it, it's too much money. The Cd8454 cant handle a 3 way active setup with a sub and is significantly mroe expensive than the used CD8053s I've found.

ugh........
