After a month of drivin around with these speakers sitting on the floor, i finally got around to glassing my Rainbows in. This is what ive done tonite so far:

Heres a pic of what it used to look like:

http://img342.imageshack.us/img342/2699/glassin017zo.jpg

A little before shot:

http://img336.imageshack.us/img336/8148/glassin028qu.jpg

All the tape and stuff:
http://img336.imageshack.us/img336/9950/glassin030wv.jpg

And done for the night leting it dry (do i need another layer?):

http://img336.imageshack.us/img336/9117/glassin041bt.jpg

Now my only problem was the taping... i didnt put foil and stuff underthe tape. I hope everythings okay underneath the tape :(

but overall looks okay to me.

will keep u updated! :D

um.

why are you putting them on the SIDE of the car like that? they should be put in the corner under the deadpedal where the plastic foot thing is... or at least as close up to that part as possible...

i guess its looking good so far tho.

Yep, the main point of kicks is to make the pathlengths of the two speakers somewhat close for better imaging, also the flexibility for aiming, the position you have them in now looks like it would be worse than stock, same place just lower.

I knew someonewas gonna ask that lol

but the reason for that is, i dont have room to put it anywhere else. my e-brake takes up the majority of the corner. and after listening to it the way i had it, the music sounded fine to my ears. It may not have PERFECT imaging, but its the best i could do with the limited space.

shyt son, if it were me, id get somone with some welding skills, hack that deadpedal off, have them weld a bar so you can move it back\over (like near the regular brake like where the clutch would be) and then your kick is totally free.

and welding it on would take like 20 minutes to do

hey sweet my first ever deleted post....

but before you unleash the delete button on me yet again, i want to say one thing

i really think that people should expirement with different stage positions... putting my tweeters (doublesided tape) down near my midrange components created very little difference in stage height.

anyway, bye.

not a bad idea actually...about the sawing the e-brake lol ... saw that joker in half and screw in a little hinge kinda, so when it's not being used, you can just flip it up and it'll be outta the way, when you need it kick her down :-) lol

http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/1460/glassin104ii.jpg

This is the basic location on where the kick is gonna be. I still need to trim a BUNCH of fiberglass off and its not aimed yet. Its also going to be elevated a little off the ground for more air space.

http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/7494/glassin114yk.jpg

mite do the right and side today. i dint sleep in 24 hours

p.s. its not the ebrake thats blocking. its the parking brake. so i kinda need that. ;)

huh?
you know ebrake and parking brake are the same thing?

also for who ever keeps calling it a dead pedal...its not.
the dead pedal is the floor directly behing the e/parking brake, where that piece of plastic is.

as for the kicks....if they wouldn't fit up in the corner i would of glassed them in the doors...but hey its your whip, as long as you like em. they're coming along nicely.

use large toothed jigsaw blades.

they eat through fiberglass.

and on a second note, you are going to want the edges as rounded as possible. in this picture;

http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/1213/glassin194uw.jpg

i would not have the little top and right bump areas. make those flush with the rest unless you want some retarded wrinkles. id cut it like this;

make sure the jig saw blades are high carbon steel or carbide tipped. Regular wood blades will dull very quick when cutting f/g.

req
08-18-2005, 03:15 PM
cut the top one the same way.

somthing like this, try to get the front side to be flush with the bottom of your baffle-

make sure the jig saw blades are high carbon steel or carbide tipped. Regular wood blades will dull very quick when cutting f/g.

that too. good tip, rather spend $12 on quality blades that will last, than $6 blades that will dull\break.

If you do use the mat+resin you will need a nice coat of body filler on there.

And if your not careful with that bodyfiller, you can expect to sand your balls off () trying to get it smoothe.

** TOS: If you take the sanding your balls off comment slightly too literally, and end up with no balls, I will not be held responsible. **

What you should do, is mat the inside of the enclosure, this way you won't need to use body filler.

Or as much body filler...

It will save you a TON of time sanding. I woulda done that on my amp rack, but it was an odd shape, so I couldn't...

Its really your choice. You dont have to worry about flexing and stuff with comps like you would with a sub box. I would recommend using a layer of mat on the inside but it is not mandatory. you can also mix mat in with the bondo and lay that inside it is called kittyhair they sell it premixed at advanced auto but you can do it yourself and save on $$$.

lol well i added an extra layer of matt outside i guess ill have to carpet after all.

and private: i dunno i havent tried it yet. but all i know it has a plastic backing instead of a foil one.
