View Full Version : Attenuate tweeters in component systems?

Hey guys, I have a set of RE RE Comps and the tweeters are soooo bright and harsh. They drown out the woofers. There is no jumper on the crossovers to attenuate the tweeters like my Infinity Kappa's did. Do you all have any solution on attenuating the tweeters? I was thinking of a resistor that can take the wattage, which isnt much, but I was thinking that would change the final independence and not just the tweeter independence. Thanks

adjust the EQ?

Did that already. My Pioneer deck has a 13 band EQ and I had the higher frequencies turned dooooooown. All of them in the deep negatives. I ran it like that for a while, but I noticed I was getting more of a hollow sound.

You can get L-pads that attenuate the tweeter, without changing the impedance the X-over sees but they need to be matched for the resistance of the tweeter. If you have a 4-ohm tweeter you would need a 4-ohm L-pad. They have a little knob that you can turn for the amount of attenuation.

I think you can build them yourself using various sorts of resistors but I have never looked into it.

Hmmm that sounds like thats exactly what I need. Know of anywhere I can get them?

PE has them...

New Tweets!! :)

Yeah I have some Aura Tweets from the buy out on the site. Was thinking about throwing those in. The RE Tweets are Silk dome as so are the Aura.

I just switched out the RE tweets for some CDT's. It's a much better match. At first I liked the RE tweets, but after awhile they wore me down. After driving for about an hour I had to turn the volume down. Now all is good! Hope this helps!

Alright thanks. I will get around to throwing my Aura tweets in.
