Are those plastic cups?!?! NO!! Go back and pick up some UNWAXED PAPER cups. Once mixed the catalyst will melt those plastic cups!

Oh, and good luck! I'm building my second set of kicks as I type. (waiting for resin to cure)

i would use fleece over fg mat. for me it dries stronger and holds its shape better with 1 layer....use matte if you like fumes lol

skeptikal
07-13-2005, 11:02 PM
i just read all these posts lol.

yes the cups did melt so i ended up using some of moms Gladware tupperware ;P. And yeah i realized i needed bondo spreaders right when i got home, but i havent bondo'ed anything so i'll run and pick a few up tomorrow. I got the molds all done just waiting for the right side to dry, got pix of everything so those will be up shortly.

Picked up the LT960/4 today and ordered the Atlas today from InhumanAcura (TYVM!) squeak is gonna come down and help me setup the soundstage since i have no idea how to do it. Pix in a couple hours!

you are gonna need more room than that. the 4" in that set is a pretty stout 4" and is the "main" speaker of the set.

skeptikal
07-14-2005, 01:24 PM
you think i will need more room than that? These pieces are like 11" x 8" i'm sure i can fit a 4" speaker in there.

audiolife
07-14-2005, 07:31 PM
hmmmm you are going to not mold the lower floor? what if "the best location" is up against it? becomes a pretty hard mold from the other way

idk we'll see when i get there. the entire project should be done in about 2 weeks (build-in too). I'll keep the pics coming as soon as i can work on it.

Use resin, it works really well. On my first fg progect I tried to use spray adhesive and a hotglue gun for mounting my mdf rings but neither held it to together that well. I then tried a small batch of resin and the mdf rings would not budge.

i got the things to mount with some resin (lol cant believe i didnt think of that, Thanks msimon)

cuttin my box down... it'll be ~4 cubes sealed. I'm just gonna throw a baffle over the front of the box and close of the port. the box is 15" tall (outside dims) but i'm gonna try some goofy sh*t to see if i cant use this... if all else fails i'll just build a new one but i'm gonna take a stab at it

nope should get my lap top today actually and the program wont crash on win98 lol. his car looks like it was made for the 3 way to fit there the tweet and 4 will be wide and pushed back and the 6 will still be wider than the ear and allll the way back by the fire wall. if brandon gets a bigger 4 channel amp i think he will be 102% satisfied although im pretty sure he is happy i heard it before he left today.....lol who do you think it is wearing the gus macker shirt and where do you think the box was built at :p: ? i ment to ask you squeak do you remember where i put those cans of glue? i know i still had 3 or 4 left but now i cant find them lol.

should have stayed had i known you were gonna slap out an amp rack we could hae made a false floor or at leasr a contoured floor in under an hour then used those wood strips we threw away to sink the fuse block and amp into the floor. could have been done with that by 6 or 7

skeptikal
07-30-2005, 08:33 PM
apparently not, I asked audiolife (and squeak as well) and neither of htem said anything about both mids sharing the same airspace. audiolife actually recommended putting all 3 on the floor since i had soo much room

audiolife
07-30-2005, 09:39 PM
lol seperate the space i didnt think u would get them on a single plain is why i didnt mention that easy fix though. you have a right and left baffle now i said right baffels and left baffles just cup the 4 off and put 2 holes in the kick bottom instead of 1.

kicks are done... gonna wait till friday to carpet them (gotta work all week) imma put 'em in tomorrow and see how they sound. kicks are ugly as sin but they will get the job done. tehy are strong enough to stand on so i'm ok ;P. got some spray sound deadener on the inside of each kick so we'll see if it makes any difference.

well got my passenger kick done. I'm gonna go in the garage in a few and get the driver's side carpeted. they came out suprisingly well for my first attempt at kicks. no flush mount tho as i didnt have a router, but they are gonna get redone in the spring, possibly with some new comps (then make the JL's HT :P). don't know how they sound yet, i still gotta install the x-overs and run all the speaker wire, which will be a pain in the ***. here ya go tho!

those are some of the most unique (weird) kick panels ive ever seen....how do they sound? they look like they point RIGHT at the passenger and driver...what speakers are those?

skeptikal
08-13-2005, 08:28 PM
JL XR 653 3-way comps. They are pointed directly at the headrest of both seats. Don't know how they sound yet as i'm putting the x-overs in tomorrow. The brake pedal sits behind the kick panel far enough for it to extend both ways so i have no problem there. Now the emergency pedal is useless but i've never used it ;P.

got 'em put in, but all i got out of them was engine noise when i first turned htem on. i talked to dave and he said that lumina's / monte carlo's are notorious for engine noise so I might just have to take a trip to d&b and get a noise supressor for the RCA.

for some reason in monte carlo's / luminas i always get horrible engine noise. I would try some new grounds.

Good luck getting the engine noise problem figured out. It can be a real ***** sometimes.

You need to swing by sometime.....I'd like to hear those once you get them up and running :thumbupw:

i thought there were some major disadvantages to using a ground loop isolator.

DBfan187
08-18-2005, 01:00 AM
there are.

I'd guess it's coming from his passive xovers. I think I read it in a Dave Navone reply. Something about the coils inside them picking up ground noise. He suggested insulating the coil.

Well today when i was driving home from work i heard the noise ;P. It's not too bad just a high humming noise when there is no song playing. when there is music coming out of the comps the noise is pretty much inaudible (unless you stick your ears right next to 'em). I haven't even messed with the x-over's at all. They are both set on REF at this point and time.

By the way the xovers are under my front seat at least 6 feet away from the battery and what not.
