View Full Version : Just wondering
OK I have a little reciever thet I don't care about anymore that says 6-16 ohms but I have my sub wired to 2 ohms. Would the the sub somehow get damaged if I hooked them up together? I won't play it for long but I don't want to get my sub broken before I put it in my car.

Hooking up a speaker (subwoofer in this case) that's too low of an impedence load for whatever is powering it to be happy would cause damage to the amplifier section in the receiver, not the sub (unless you clip the heck out of the receiver then ya might damage the sub)
If your sub is a Dual-4 Ohm that you've wired the coils in parallel to get that 2 Ohm load rewire them temporarily in series to make an 8 Ohm load until it gets installed in your car.
I'm currently using two 4 Ohm SVC 10's wired together in series being powered by the subwoofer channel on my HT receiver and have had no problems yet.

be patient. Just break it in when it's in your car.
OK I'll just wait until I put it in my car. I did have it wired to 8 ohms once before but I don't want to go through the hassle of wiring to 8 again then back to 2. My amp wiring kit should be here next week so I'll just be patient. Thanks for the help.
