i am so confused about your thread.
your title says pioneer P9 and yet youre talking about the p9400?
anyways, the 9400 is a decent HU although your bro got ripped a new one paying that much for it. if he's selling for a good price, i'd say you should buy it.

To answer your first question the 9400 owns the 9830. If that head unit was barely used and he knew the guy he bought it from really well then I could see paying 600 for it but other than that I wouldn't have. All that aside its a great head unit but it only has 4 volt pre outs compared to the 6.5 volts its counter part (DEH-P940) has. But none the less it has lots of great features including network mode.

ok the reason why i put p9....is its not a p9400 scratch that..i have to ask him to get the exact model number...it doesnt look like the p9400 bigger screen...but it was p9 something..anyways the animations are awesome, one is a spacescape and the other is a race car and all that good stuff. And what i like is it has a off air on air mike when the radio is playing and it shows the station title..i know for sure its better then the p9400 i should of posted with valid information..sorry about that

JAZN

if it plays mp3s, that rules out the p9. is it single or dual motorized face?

adam71
06-29-2005, 02:49 AM
It also rules out the 9300, 930, 9200, and the 920.

P9 has no animations
Its bare bones, no frills
The 9400/9300 have all the animations.
If its all blue its the 9400 or the 940
Id say ite better than the P9 because you dont need a seperate EQ for it.
:fyi:
My bro has the p9 and a close friend of mine has the 9300 so i know what im talking about
P.S
N00b with a RS, thats a new NSX

if $$ is no object, p9 combo owns about anything else you can get that's all inclusive. if you don't want to spend too much then 940, 860, p1r are all good.

Thread starter, if your bro paid 600 for that deck he got bent over and taken without lube. 600 can get you a BNIB p9 on ebay or an online dealer and for another 300 bone's you've got a p9 combo. Or at 600 bucks you can get a BNIB 860 premier which is better than a 9400 for 300 less.

I heard bad stuff about the p1r
Yes, the p9 combo is a sweat deal, it can be had for $700 ;)

Ebay I can see but give me a link to a dealer (online or offline) that sells that combo for 900. The only place online I found was 900 just for the deck, let alone the processor. I paid 1350 for my combo. Do I feel bad about that? No. I bought it at my local shop and if something were to go wrong I have a 20 minute ride to the dealer.

Ikesound

They only have the processor, NOT the head unit. And they want 500 for the processor. Unless you can find a DEX-P9 for 400 then you will be paying well over a grand.

Looks like a great deal as long as the guy took care of it. But MOST people who buy equipment of that calibur DO take very good care. ;)

you spelled it calibur its correctly spelled caliber

I purchased P9 refurbs (factory refurbs, btw) from IkeSound for $700.00.

My P9 setup is for sale as well.

Also, I'd like to mention that buying refurbished P9 units is actually better than buying used (and new in some cases). Just make sure that they are refurbished by Pioneer. Often they replace the broken components with better ones as to avoid the problem in the future, they are also sent through quality control and have to meet the factory standards. Now of course you don't have the warranty, but you are saving so much money you can practically afford to buy a new component should something happen. Its a much better way to get a P9 combo than rather buying a used setup for $1000.00+. Of course, if you can find it NIB for a good price, its still worth it.

There is no reason to overpay for high end gear. New or used.

Just my 2 cents.

First of all I would never agree that a refurb could compare to a BNIB unit. The 2 year warranty alone is WELL worth the extra money you pay for a new one. I would however agree that a refurb would be more enticing than a used unit when you have no idea what abuse the previous owner put it through.

The term overpay is very subjective. You might think I overpaid for my P9 combo where I on the other hand do NOT. Like I mentioned earlier I have the warranty and the peace of mind that NO ONE has ever put their hands on it. In my opinion buying brand new is and always will be worth it even if you're paying alot more. Unless of course it is a unit that is no longer made. :D
