so about 15 mins ago, i went over to my neighbor's house (the one with the avalance in the sofaclosure) to get some solder cause i had run out. hes somethin like 29, early thirties or something and he's extremely smart and a good woodworker. so hes like david, i want to show u somethin. so i'm like aight what is it. so he has these two boxes on the ground by his paradigm towers with sheets over them. he was like i want u to tell me which is the 15" and which is the 12". so i'm like ok wtf is this. so he starts playing some music and after about a minute of switching, i was like, the one on the right is the 15", no joke. left is the 12". so he's like, are you sure (looking disappointed)? so i'm thinking this is fcking easy, why'd i just waste my time so he goes over to the left box, pulls up the sheet and shows a 12" paradigm sub. i'm like this is retarded, i need to get home. then he's looking real sad and plays another track, and i'm like dude thats a 15", just lemme see what driver it is so i can go home :uhoh: :uhoh: . he then starts smiling, turns off the music and lifts up the sheet. hes smiling alot more and then i figure out why. his "fifteen" is really one of these:

Adire used to have plans for a bass horn for their Tempest. Don't know if they are still on the site or not.

The Decware Imperial Horn would be the way to go (28 cubes! hoo-ah! :D) but there are plenty of other designs out there.

Pretty impressive what a horn can do? There's a reason why they were popular back in the '30s with mono radio consoles - usually driven by single-ended triodes.

Everything old is new again.

I have a folded horn design that's reprinted from a 1920's article - if I'm feeling nice tomorrow, I'll scan it and post it up on my site somewhere.

Google is your friend. A lot has been written on the subject, so a trip to Google and forums like http://www.diyaudio.com would reveal a lot of knowledge. They're a very interesting design.

Whats your site?

I should say, my webspace...I'm still thinking about the design of a site, so I don't have one up yet.

Their amps kick some major ***...I used to own a modified Decware Zen Select, 'twas a great little amp. Best 2 watts per channel I've heard yet.

To match my friends NSB array, the plan was to make a bass array with the same
woofers 8 per tower {two towers} so the system would be four towers.

The reason for choosing this woofer and doing a bass array was;

1. It's cheap, in array form it will do very well for only $350.

2. SQ should be much better than a single monster 15" woofer trying to play
low pass 200 - 300hz, the midbass punch should be clean when 16 of them are
hitting the higher bass frequencies provided that you feed the array a monster
pro amp - hehe

3. My friend wants the eye candy of 16 8" woofers in two towers, looks mean.

I'd rather do a Koda 8" array but Adire dropped 8" woofers from their new lineup.

Especially the ones that think you need to break in your cables to get them sounding well, and you need $200 power cables :D

If you ever want a laugh, a trip to rec.audio.high-end is mandatory. If CA.com is a bunch of teenagers bickering, that NG is a bunch of 35-50 year old executives bickering :D Different demographic, different vocabularies, same BS.
