View Full Version : Who makes mids

I'm looking for some 6 to 7 inch mids...... not components, and not co-axials... just mids.

There don't seem to be a whole lot of manufacturers out there. I know of a few, but I want to really survey my options before buying. Most of what I find are either super high-end (scanspeak) or super low-end (goldwood).... Is there any middleground?

adire audio extremis 6.5 (8ohm?)
polk audio momo 7 (4ohm)
reaudio XXX6.5 (2ohm)
image dynamics chameleons (2ohm)
orion hcca 6.5's (2ohm)

off the top of my head. there are a bunch that squeak will pop up with. like dayton, and all those companies :)

On a couple of the websites you can find companies that will sell just the mids. Partsexress has a butload but I do not know much about the brands they carry.

Dayton, Seas, Scanspeak, Peerless, Vifa, Usher, Max Fidelity (supposedly performance close to that of Dynaudio), Morel, etc etc. Plus those that req mentioned.

One thing to keep in mind; price alone is not a good indicator of performance :) A lot of the Vifa, Peerless, Dayton, Max Fidelity, etc products are pretty cheap, but are great performers.

just need to worry yourself about an active crossover so you can blend it with your sub\front stages.

squeak, what was that coustic one? :p:
do you know of a bandpass (8~12db\oct) crossover for mids?

Coustic XM6 I believe is what you are talking about.

I agree, my first two crossovers were coustic. Back in the day amps did not come with them like they do now.

The CDT HD-6 is a very nice mid or can be used as midbass depending on what frequencies you feed it.

LOL...two totally different leagues

Not saying that the CSX isn't a good driver, especially for someone on a budget. Many people use them and are more than happy with them. But, to compare them to the XXX mids.....not really a fair match-up. But, the XXX mids also cost 4x as much, so it should be expected.

Nah !!!!!! Just throw twice as much power to them. An amp thats 300 x 2 @ 4ohm would work just fine @ 8 ohm. :D

See, i asked that question as well earlier and was wondering about it =] So basically an 8 ohm driver will take the power its rated for at 4 and "cut it in half" per se and then run at 8 ohms? Or something like that anyway?

How do those Morels look to all of you? Looks **** to me, i just dont know how itd perform compared to the XXXs....???

And squeak thanks for the response on the CSX!

Oh yeah, and i am way "emoer" than Jazn. I bet he doesn't even know The Rocket Summer. I hate that guy (one man band), but he is sooooooooooooooo emo its ridiculous. He's like this: :crying: + :nerd: + :ladysman: + gay. :p:

using the same amp, an 8ohm driver will get half the power a 4ohm driver would with mostly all amps.

and yes i do know who the rocket summer is, decently liked calendar days and somewhat enjoy the new album too ;) im currently listening to ...And then i turned seven... and daphne loves derby.

daphne loves derby owns... i love listening to them so much. i bought their EP a couple months ago right when it came out, somewhat disappointing. $7 for basically 8 minutes of music. its all REALLY good though, and its worth it for the non acoustic version of come winter ... or whatever that song is called

and i can't stand the rocket summer. i dont know why. just annoys me. myspace-***** artist.

Morel 6.5s (link above) or XXX 6.5s? Or how about the EU 650s? How do they stack up to the Morel / XXX midwoofs?

thats a really good area to learn some stuff.

i had basically just been looking at the frequency response charts, this seems to be the best way to compare speakers.

does anyone have a frequency response chart for the XXX 6.5s?????

This would be verrry useful to me...
