ah the good ol jig saw.

Im actually impressed with this one it cuts like butter and has a laser line on it. It was cutting better than my circular saw so thats why i used it. Once i get back from vacation Im thinking of saving and buying a table saw since Im always wanting to build this or that around the house, and I might be able to get some local jobs building boxes once I improve my skills and learn how to design plans like these guys.

Ruckus is that the one JMAC designed for you, its looking nice i just recently sent him my specs.

ruckus
05-25-2005, 08:05 AM
yeah thats the one Jmac designed. looks better in person than in the pics. It dont have globs of silicon like the pics show it its actually very smooth. Not sure why it shows like that in the pics. Im seriously considering fiberglassing the front too, and adding a piece to the left side for a amp mount. still in progress in my head though.

you can get a ryobi for 100-200 and build a rolling cart for your wood to hang off.

was this meant for SQ or SPL? SPL but maintain some SQ So not quite SQL more like SPQ LOL. I mean it is an SPL speaker and it peaks at 37hz according to pioneer so thats what I went for, of course im not expecting brahma SPL but better than most speakers in this price range hopefully ;)

Sorry but port problem...

How large is the opening of the port in the box. It needs to be at least 1 and 1/2 the width of the port man.

ruckus
05-25-2005, 10:32 AM
what do you mean? the port opening is 1.75" x 11.5"

what do you mean? the port opening is 1.75" x 11.5"

In the box at the end of the port it is very close to the port wall. That little opening would have to be at least 2.65" for the tuning to not be effected.

Maybe it is big enough. I'm just checking for ya.

couple more pics got it sealed, sanded, and hole cut. I would show a pic with the speaker in but when i test fitted it I almost couldnt get it out cause it was so tight it forms a seal so Im not putting it back in till its ready to stay.

When placing the pseaker in a ported box does it matter where you put it or does it stay the same regardless?

ruckus
05-26-2005, 10:10 PM
I asked that before cutting the hole and was told it would be the same on the left or right. I just chose right cause Im adding a piece to the left to hide the wires and mounting my amp on the front.

Well Im "planning" on building anothyer piece to the left false front, with a cubby in the back to house the wires then I plan on carpeting everything. Laying in the speaker and Amp, then I am gonna attempt a shroud made of fiberglass over the top, and front.

Fiberglassing will be delayed though because Im going on vacation from the 1st to the 14th so I wont start that till i come back. But carpet should be on tomorrow.

hi. so is this a normal thing to do? at the very end of the port near the wall, it should 1 and 1/2 the width of the port?

saywhat?
05-28-2005, 03:18 PM
it should be atleast the port width from what i remember...but yes.....1 1/2 for safety

ruckus
05-28-2005, 05:28 PM
well mine is the port width, hopefully im ok ;)

some more pics. Fiberglassing part will have to wait till get come home from my roadtrip.

I did mess up on cutting the speaker hole. I needed to be 1" more to the left. The grill is right on the edge of the porthole. but I was suprised how good my carpet came out since this was my first box.

looks nice, is that monitor trash in the background or does your box shield the magnet.

ruckus
05-28-2005, 09:13 PM
its only a 15' so it will be trash soon. Im just too lazy to put it outside. I have a couple brand new 17" monitors sitting in my closet. and 4 19" monitors hooked up to my puters :D

Ruckus...cute PC with the butterfly lol, JP. Ay, how would you recommend starting on applying the carpet/vinyl (in my case). Where should I start and with what size pieces you know?

ruckus
05-28-2005, 11:36 PM
well the PC is my 7yo daughters :D dont like her touching my PC ;)

The carpet I did it right off the roll (had a 6 yard roll) started at the bottom 3/4 of the way down and layed the super77 let it tack and carefully spread it out like laying fatmat. I did the sides last and I found with the carpet by laying over the under carpet and cutting both layers with a razor at the same time and removing the bottom layer the top blends in perfect with the other side ;) Never tried vinyl so im not sure how they do the sides and the meet at the bottom.

00StealthSE
05-29-2005, 09:25 AM
Thanks, it should be the same laying that vinyl...am I right, does anyone know?

not too impressed with the bass. I dont know if its the box, sub, amp, or a combination but it gets about as loud as my 2 12" kicker 03C124 did.

hookdupexpo
05-30-2005, 09:22 PM
Ive never heard your sub, so i cant say much about whether it is the sub or not that is why there isnt as much bass as you expected, but personally i am not a huge fan of profile amps. If you really want to try and make it louder and have the money, Id say upgrade the amp and that should solve the problem.

Jhyde00

Where did you find that subwoofer grill?

ruckus

got the grill from partsexpress

I got some pics and a small video of my sub at http://dillusionz.com/gallery/RuckusAlbum
