Haha, its has been to hott here man.

Try taking a damp rag and wiping off the box. You dont want to get it wet at all, you just want to get that tiny layer of sawdust off of it.

Is it the wood, carpet, carpet adhesive or the silicone??
I dont think it is the wood itself but something you used while building it...

is ur car a hatch back or sumthin? I dont think ive ever heard of a MDF box smellin that bad. Usually its the fumes from the liquid nails or silicone thats makes people dizzy.

it is aMINIVAN. could be the liquid nails or silicone ****. i mean it is bad... how would i go about getting rid of this smell though?

this box is ported right? I mean if it was sealed I would go over and check if it was REALLY sealed and now air was coming out of the cracks. That could be were all the fumes are coming out of. Other than that, I would probably take it out and let it sit in the garage or outside so the fumes can go away and everything can dry up. Im sure that stuff will dry alot better sittin in the front yard then it will sittin in ur van.

alright it is ported i will remove it :( now to find some CHEAP as Fck carpet.

Its been over a week since it was built, all the sealing should be dry.

Try what i said, and also try leaving it in the garage.

Ive heard of them smelling, but not so bad that your about to die.

use a few cans of spray primer on it before you finish it. It'll seal it so you can't smell it anymore.

And I bet it would dry faster in the van. Its like a greenhouse in there - humidity.

I would get killz instead of regular primer, that will make sure no mold got into the wood. cause if your getting smells that bad it could be mold forming form getting MDF that was wet at some point.

try taking your subs out of the box and checking if its stronger inside the box or the same as outside then youll know if its wood or sealant.

If its wood maybe clear coat the whole box if sealant leave it out in pure sunlight for a day.

mine stunk for a bit from the bed liner and then when i just did the fiberglass. my x-girlfriend pretty much refuses to get in my car kuz of the smell but i dont notice it tho. i was getting pretty Fing high off of it for a bit. but yeah take it out for a bit or i likke ur idea of stapling air freshoners to it that would look tight but smell horrible

well if its the wood smelling and its ported your gonna have to primer it inside and out. cause if you just primer the outside it is still gonna have un-primered mdf smell porting out the box.

The wood I used was the same Ive built 10+ boxes with from homedepot. He was there when we picked it out.

yea with a douche hahahaha

no really, my box smelled. i also didn't brush off the sawdust on the inside or outside with a rag or compressed air or anything. my cabin smelled a lil bit for a while, but i definitely did not suffocate. my trunk did smell like wood a good amount though for a while. every time i showed friends the junk in the trunk, they always comment how it smells like wood haha. not it doesnt smell much or at all unless you stick your nose in the port.

It's a combination of the liquid nails and the silicone...

I remember my box ive built for my W7 and I left the box in my room the day I built it and it smelt like a forest until later on the smell went away. So I think airing out the box will help a little too..

when i got my custom-built box from MoeLester and put it in my car, my car would wreak of wood. wasnt bad at all.. just smelt like wood to me.. i live with it. i actually kinda like it versus a 1994 car smell.

my box smelled like wood for weeks, especially after being in the sun for a while. its from all the sawdust left inside the box, but its not that big of a deal to me. ive had my car wreak of mdf, asphalt (deadening), fiberglass, and paint all for weeks and mdf was the least horrible smell. **** it up fool! or put a fruity air freshener in there :p:

saw dust left inside box is probably not good for the sub(s)

Put an air freshner inside the port. Everytime you bump it a little bit you will get some good smelling air moving around.

That is what I was getting at when I said to put a piece of red cedar wood in there.

Ah, didn't see your post. Yeah actually works pretty good. I have 2 vanilla air freshners stapled into my box. May have to try that cedar in there next...

eh, i'd be more afraid about my lungs from the sawdust than the wood.....the sawdust is all just gonna blow out the port or burn off inside anyway
