Hey I drive a 2001 pontiac bonneville and it has what is called digital audio. Now I went into best buy to talk about installation costs and the guy said I would need a $100 dollar converter just to put in a head unit. Has anyone heard of this? Is this just a ploy to sell more stuff or do I really need it for digital audio? WHat he said was it will computerize everything? Thanks for the help. Mike

It's proly the monsoon system in it... then again i'm drunk. It's prolly just amped.

wait now that i think about it... it's proly just like 2000+ montes and all ur door chimes and **** are tied into it and you need to relocated your factory to your trunk.

pretty much, yes.

bestbuy relocated the factory headunit to the trunk, useing a very expensive part, and 17 feet of bundled wires. they also put a chime somewhere in your vehicle.

circuit city uses a part that's slightly more expensive, but doesn't keep your factory head unit... in my opinion its a MUCH better peice

also, as far as I know, its all GM's 01 and up... different features are intergrated into the radio for different cars

i'm pretty sure it's only bonny's that are 02 and up that NEED to have the OE hu. he's safe by a year i think. the $100 is just wires that send the new deck signal and converts it to the OE deck signal that the OE amp(underneath the rear deck most likely if it's bose) can read.
