    Best use for Kicker KX1200.1??

I am wondering if I have the right amp for the right job...

I have a pair of HX2's (dual 4-ohm) and wondering if the KX1200.1 is the right amp to wire up to the HX2??

The kicker is a mono amp and according to my calculations I am only putting like 300 watts to the subs, but that doesn't seem right???

    What do you guys think??

you have a total 1 ohm load on the amp if you wire the subs down to 1 ohm. each COIL will see 300w, a total of 600w per sub

    perfect match for sub/amp combo...

*****in' (now that is old skool verbage right there)...

Basically that means that the posts wired on the subs are wired together inside my box and then of course the subs are wired inline off the amp correct???

Re: Best use for Kicker KX1200.1??

I have the kx1200.1 already, I blew it up this week (sound cut out, but power was still there) and sent it out to kicker yesterday...

I was driving a pair of hx2's in a sealed box when it blew up and in the mean time I have moved the hx2's to a slot ported box (~2 cubic feet) and hooked up a kx350.4 to hold me over and the 350.4 sounds almost as good (although I think it is going in protect mode when driven hard) as the 1200.1 does...

I am not sure how to wire up the 350.4 in the mean time, the subs inside the box have wires running from a set of posts to the other set of posts on the same sub and then on the box I have wiring from one sub running to the next sub and then to a single positive and negative port on the amp, is this the right way to wire the 350.4 to those subs or am I doing something wrong...

I would like to use the 350.4 until my 1200.1 comes back in, but with the way the subs are wired now, I dont think the amp is setup correctly and I am afraid I may blow something else up...

    Thoughts??

reading the post above and the way I have the subs wired, I believe they are wired to 1 ohm, do you think the 350.4 would support that..???

not 1 ohm stereo, I would run them 4 ohms stereo for now until the 1200 comes back,

Re: Best use for Kicker KX1200.1??

looks like the 350.4 will support 2 ohm stereo and throw out 90.2 but the chart shows I can get 175x2 at 4 ohm bridged mono... I have tried to understand this, but I cant catch the drift for the life of me..

its a 4 channel, you cannot run it mono, you can crossover the right channels togethor and the left channels togethor

Re: Best use for Kicker KX1200.1??

the way you run 4 ohm stereo would be to disconnect the jumping of the posts inside the box and run the wire non parallel to each "amp" on the 3504.4 and then jump each set of + and - together in each "amp"???

Re: Best use for Kicker KX1200.1??

typical box... on the subs there are four posts, the two positive and two negative are wired together, and then a wire runs to the connections on the inside of the box...

Then on the left hand side of the box, the wiring connects to the right hand side of the box, this will result in wiring the subs inline...

I think when the posts are wired together on a sub, that means that a 4 ohm dual voice coil is now 2 ohm (by virtue of the sub posts being wired together) and then when you run the subs in-line of each other, that would then make them 1 ohm correct???

But since I want to run them 4 ohm stereo, would I just disconnect the wires on the outside of the box that makes them run inline and from the subs I would still have the jumpers on the post inside the box, but from the box I would run one sub positive and negative to amp one on the 350.4 with the positive and negative jumpered on the sub 1 connections and then from the other sub with the jumpers still on the post in the box run a wire from the back of the box to the sub 2 connection on the 350.4 (of course those would be jumpered too)...

I really appreciate you taking the time to read this, I am not sure how long Kicker is going to have the 1200.1 and I would like to have some bump until then...

    T

Re: Best use for Kicker KX1200.1??

I think I am understanding you correctly, I think for now the best thing would be to wire the subs into 2 ohms stereo on the rear channels of the amp, that why you can still use the front channels for your mids and highs,

so I think for temporary purposes you should wire sub #1 up to the left rear channel like this:

and wire sub #2 to the right rear channel the same way:

that will show the rear channels a 2 ohm stereo load which it should run fine, you will not be pushing the subs that hard but it will be enough power to get by for now
