    Alpine MRD-M501 vs. JL 500/1

Out of the Alpine MRD-M501 and a JL Audio 500/1 which would you guys pick to power one JL 12W6v2 in a ported box tuned to 32Hz? Is the more money for the 500/1 really worth it in quality? How do you compare these? sorry if this has been answered before.
    thanks.

Dual 4ohm and I will wire it for a 2ohm load to the amp so the alpine will put out about 550 watts and the jl will put out 500+ watts.

Explain? Same power output at 2 ohms, same features, hmmm...

The only reason I would buy the JL amp is if I was running some weird 3 or 1.5 ohm load since their amps are fully regulated.

Not really, JL's big selling point is the same power output at any load. So it will put out 500W no matter what load you put on it (within reason, I don't think are stable lower than 1 ohm).

Dood explane your retarded remark with facts, would love to see how it would "own" the alpine *LOL*. Both would be an excellent choice period.

Re: Alpine MRD-M501 vs. JL 500/1

jl amps are underrated and will give you much more clean power than the alpine.... although it's only for a subwoofer so it wouldn't make too much of a difference which one you go with..... if you are on a budget go with alpine, otherwise jl is where it's at

Re: Alpine MRD-M501 vs. JL 500/1

JL Audio amps aren't underrated anymore than the Alpine amps are (which they are..). Both make plenty of clean power. Lol, where do you guys get these "facts" anyways?

Also... Alpine amps have an interface with most newer Alpine decks to allow you to change your settings from the driver's seat. I am not sure if your Alpine deck can or not, it will tell you in your manual.

Re: Alpine MRD-M501 vs. JL 500/1

Sorry to bring back kind of dead thread but I was just wondering why the signal to noise ratio on the mrd-m501 is so low? It is 60db. Usually every other amp ive seen is at least in the 80's range. Does this effect sound quaklity a lot?
    thanks

Re: Alpine MRD-M501 vs. JL 500/1

    based on my experience.....
all i can say is w/the alpine amps i've owned i've had road noise, my jl amp doesn't.

i think alpine can stick to making sweet head units & tv's while jl continues to produce subs and amps..

    enough said.

Re: Alpine MRD-M501 vs. JL 500/1

the Alpine amps are rated at 14.4v. the JL has the RIPS that allows for the rated power output to be produced from 11-14.4 volts.
