Dear god, please not again.........this has been gone over 1000 times.

Lets just leave it at this:

Yes some people say they can hear a difference. No, not everyone agrees and some say the differences are inaudible. Yes Richard Clark has a $10,000 amp challenge. No, no one has won the money yet. Yes, people have won but the test was supposedly "set up incorrectly" and they weren't given the money. No, I don't believe the RC test is "real world" due to some of the restrictions (amp can't clip, powered by a stable power supply, all internal features bypassed, etc). Yes, this discussion will go on till the end of time. No, there is no definite answer.

Re: Which is better for better SQ: Class A/B or Class D?

i think it depends on the manufacture. for some odd reason for the longest time i had a planet audio "d" class amp. it sounded good n all. i thought i was hearing all the bass n stuff. but every time i threw in a cadence a/b class amp i was hearing things with it my planet audio amps NEVER produced.

it baffled me and to this day i STILL have both amps and can show you an audible difference that even a "noob" could hear.

Hell, if you ask Image Dynamics, they'll tell you not to use a Class D to power an IDMax

Majority of the problem is that most class D car audio amps are horribly designed.

Oh, and Eclipse recently came out with a full-range class D aswell. I'd be interested in checking that one out

Re: Which is better for better SQ: Class A/B or Class D?

problem with class d and t amps is noise. they switch more times per given cycle. on old mmts class d's and so forth to what i listen to now is a greater ability to have noise. if you know what you are doing shouldnt be a problem, if you install everything correctly and solidly shouldnt be a problem.....if you dont get noise

Re: Which is better for better SQ: Class A/B or Class D?

sh1t i guess i won't get a class D then cuz of the noise problem. I was thinking of gettin the new Sony XMD-500 Class D amp. I read a really good review on this amp at www.carsound.com and it got an efficiency at 1/3 power of 68% at 2 ohms and put out 553 rms at 2 ohms and at max power 84% at 2 ohms! incredible! Heres what got me though, it was the high THD at 2 ohms, it was like 0.6% i'm still gonna get it though since it is class D and has better efficiency.

Re: Which is better for better SQ: Class A/B or Class D?

okay, i won't go with the sony amp. My other Class D amp choice was the Alpine MRP-350 and it puts out 350 rms at 2 ohms which is perfect for my Infinity 1232 dual voice coil sub
and the THD on this amp is only 1%. and like u said it's inaudible i'm gonna go with this Alpine MRP-M350, i've read some good reviews on it.

Xtant has a full range class D amp. Supposed to be an extreme SQ amp, but class D. The best of both worlds supposedly. I actually have one, just haven't used it.
