New Member Questions on an old-school amp

Howdy! I'm new to the forum, but not to the car audio world. I used to run 2 Kicker Comp 12's with Alpine door speakers in an old Dodge truck, and it was a great sounding system. I have been out of building systems since the mid-90's, and I'm working on a small system to give my SUV a little more thump. It's a Dodge Durango, and once my Infinitys blew out, I replaced them with Infinity Kappas. They are lacking in bass, so I'm putting a Kicker Comp 12 in a box and planning to power it with my old Autotek 7050 in 4Ohm mono. I'm running the input signal off the rear door speaker into a line level converter, then to the amp. I'm planning to use a 3-way fuse distribution block (Tsunami) to allow for quick disconnect of the remote, power, and ground wires so I can take the box (amp mounted to box) out quickly if I'm going fishing or having to leave my truck somewhere for an extended period of time (anti-theft in mind).

    Now the question:

Do I have to worry about this old Autotek being reliable or blowing? It hasn't been powered up in probably 8 years, but it was working fine up until then. Just want some opinions on people's experiences with older amps and what I should expect. If it ends up blowing, what amp should I replace it with for my application? I like how clean this Autotek is, so I'd want something in that quality range.

My 15 year old Crutchfields are still running fine. Only problem I would see in an old amp is maybe the power supply capacitors drying up or something. Run it. If it dies buy a new amp.

    Rockman,

Are you running the in-line Harrison FMods (look like RCA Jacks) on your subs? How do you like them? I just ordered a set for my sub - 100Hz Low pass.

Re: New Memer Questions on an old-school amp

Got it hooked up a couple weeks ago. It rocks out like it did in 1991! I might upgrade to a more powerful amp for the sub eventually and use this one to drive the highs and mids. Looks like Ebay is a good source for old Punch, Autotek, Soundstream and Hifonics amps. I like the old ones b/c they were just built better.
