I want something good that will last me for a few years. Another problem I have with buying used is that I won't have the cash in hand to buy the products for another week or two. That's the main reason why I wanted to buy new.

    JBL specs...
They look good. 500 @ 4 ohms, not bad. (if it does rated)

    Maximum Current Draw 70A
    Number of Channels/Type 1 Channel
    Signal-to-Noise Ratio >80dB
    4-Ohm Power Output 500W RMS x 1 channel at 4 ohms, 14.4V DC,
    <1.0% THD
    2-Ohm Power Output 750W RMS x 1 channel at 2 ohms, 14.4V DC,
    <1.0% THD
    Peak Power 1450W
    Frequency Response 10Hz-280Hz

The specs for the rf and Kenwood amps are only 50 and 60 watts a channel.
You need 100 for mids and highs.
    So no

I'm not sure about Kicker's reputation about doing more than what its rated. Should I just keep looking for something that does exactly 100?

Trying to keep it under $250 for both, but willing to go a little over.

I would say Precision Power BK340.2 for a budget option. Gobs of power on tap and shouldn't have the same issues some of the Phantom models have been showing as of late on DIYMA. Plus, it's super-sexy A/B power and I think the amp just looks a little better than the Phantoms (though not as small)

Otherwise, onlinecarstereo has a blowout deal on the Boston Acoustics GT2200 for 189 (STEAL) and is definitely better built than the PPI models.

Thanks, the PPI is a little out of budget, but I can probably still make it work.

What do you think of the JBL as a mono amp to power a 12" Dayton HO?

The JBL GTOEZ are nice little amps. Definitely make some solid power, have a nice clip indicator built into the amp to make gain settings effortless. If you get the DVC Dayton HO, you should have enough power to run it well at 2 ohms.

wow that audio technix looks like one little bad amp. 120amp fuse rated. Wonder if it capable of 1000watts no issues. Never heard of the brand. BTW, Anyone else see that $7000 Memphis mad max 18" on the bottom of that ebay ad? WOW the insanity. JBL is fine stuff btw. Very fine stuff.
