    Audio shop run around??

Ok total noob, but please stay with me..

Ok recently installed one Pioneer TS-SW3001S4 sub... This is a 4 ohm SVC speaker with 400w RMS and 1500max specs. I had an older Kenwood KAC 6202 400w amp to run the speaker till I could get something bigger.

The problem I'm having is that I want to purchase a bigger amp, lets say a Hi Fonics BRZ 1200 mono amp due to the amp putting out 450rms at 4ohms, but a local audio place tell me the ohm load will drop to 2 ohms (something about internally bridged) and the amps RMS 750 at 2 ohms..and damaging my speaker... All the research I have done does not add up to his conclusion

Keep in mind it's one 4ohm speaker 400rms and single voice coil

Does any of it make sense?

That sounds like bullshit to me, either that or you're repeating what they said wrong. Still, though, if you're happy, you don't need a bigger amp, when you do need a bigger amp you should shop around on the classifieds here anyway.

    Re: Audio shop run around??

You have a 4 ohm SVC sub, the only load it will ever present to an amp will be 4 ohms. Mono amps or bridgeable 2-channels will work fine with that load.

    Re: Audio shop run around??

See every search I conducted came back with your responses.

As far as repeating wrong info... I asked him twice to explain why that amp wouldn't work was due to dropping the load to 2ohms which at that load the RMS would be at 750w

He claimed he wanted to get me a different amp which was of course more expensive JL Audio 500.1 mono which is 300 rms at 4 ohms...
    Could that be actually better?

    Re: Audio shop run around??

Do not buy an overpriced jl amp from a shop. You can get much better for your money. Also, buying an amp to get 450 watts instead of 400 is a waste of money, you will really not even notice much of a difference.

    Re: Audio shop run around??

Well that Kenwood amp I'm currently using is a 2 channel 400w max... Manufacture specs have this amp outputting 200w rms at 4ohms bridged (which is my setup)

So what I'm trying to accomplish is getting from 200w rms to at least 400w rms (speakers nominal rms)... Are y'all saying its not worth the switch?

The shop is probably trying to sell him a JX series not a Slash series amp, the cheaper JL amps don't have RIPS.
