How hot should an amp get?

I've recently switched from a hifonics brz 1200.1 to a JBL GTO 2400.1, now the hifonics never even got warm, but this JBL gets pretty hot and Im not pushing it near as hard as I was with the hifonics. I know certain amps get warmer than others, I have a jl slash v2 300.4 and it gets pretty warm, but not near as warm as the jbl does

Should not be hot to the touch. Luke warm at most. Maybe look into a fan

I have the 1400 and those amps draw a tremendous amount of current. I wouldn't worry about it as long as you can keep it feed. I'm not even sure if they're class AB or D

Re: How hot should an amp get?

No amp should run seriously hot.But It is good practice to run it a cool as possible. If it gets hot enough it should shut down/or blow a fuse, but fans are cheap, and move quite a bit of air.Its your system. So if you feel as if its running too hot, check your wiring configuration for proper ohm load, and make certain you are feeding it with the proper electrical, and make a decision weather to place a fan on it or not.Ive ran old school amps so hott back in the day I could feel the heat up front,on some old coustic 380s on my subs,190s on the mids ect.

Make sure you are not running it at a load its not stable at. That JBL amp is only stable at 2 or 4 ohms so make sure everything is wired correctly.

All a cap does is put more of a load on your electrical system. I would remove it.
