really stupid question about 4ch amps
ok, so im about to pick up a 4 channel amp if i can find one for a decent price. the amp will be used to run 4 componant/coaxial sets(depending on what i decide to go with). the only problem im running into is the fact that componant sets have a crossover and 2 seperate speakers. so does that qualify them as needing 1 channel per speaker? or 1 channel per crossover? my intention is to run a componant sets up front with coaxials in the rear, i just want to make sure i can power all speakers with the single 4 channel amp...

Re: really stupid question about 4ch amps
not a stupid question at all. the answer is one channel per crossover.
Re: really stupid question about 4ch amps
ok, but if i were to go active i would need 1 channel per speaker. for a total of 2 4 channel amps correct?

Yep....what he said...the comps.come with a crossover to split the highs and lows.the co ax will most likely have the crossover built into it.
Re: really stupid question about 4ch amps
sweet, unfortunatly that means i have to get comps/coaxials before i can install the amp

You can go ahead and install the amp for now, even before you get the speakers. A lot of stock systems benefit from extra amplification. Plus, when it's time to put in the new speakers, you've got one less step to worry about. I'd recommend doing this if for nothing more than being able to run all your wiring in advance...
Re: really stupid question about 4ch amps
If you went active up front, that would take 4 channels, 2 for the woofers, 2 for the tweeters. In the back, they are coaxials, so you would just need a 2 channel amp.
Re: really stupid question about 4ch amps
well, the car has a factory amp. its the monsoon amp. 4 speakers up front 2 in the rear. ill probobly install the 4 channel amp power/ground and remote when i do the sub amp install, but ill wait until i get speakers to run their wires since i will be removing the factory stuff and selling it.
