    1 ohm stability.....

A while back reading through multiple car audio forums, I came across some talk about how many amps claiming 1 ohm stability don't really run very well and should best be wired to 2ohms.

Is this generally true? Maybe only a handful of amps out there can really handle 1 ohm, max power, for long periods of time? Or is this another myth of some sort?

Some amplifiers maybe really aren't 1 Ohm stable despite the advertised specs, but you also have to factor in the extra heat that can come from such a low impedance. It also goes hand in hand with how hard you run your system. Music with a lot of synthesized bass played at high volume for extended times is really going to stress your amplifier.

I wouldn't know where to start. Like I said, it was a while ago. But I wanted to bring up this topic to get a better understanding of it now that I'm more interested in it.

maybe when you're preferring to full range amplifiers, those generally won't be 1ohm stable. Though some old school amp certainly can do it. However, lower ohm loads mean lower efficiency, thus causing them to be current hogs
