Anyone have real world experience with a Kicker Warhorse ?

If you are going to dog on me please don't reply. I just picked up a brand new warhorse for dirt cheap and want to run it in my boat with 2 Kicker 15" l7s and 4 Infinity perfect 10s . I can really only fit 4 batteries and don't have a decent alternator as it is a marine unit. Which doesn't really matter anyway because I won't be running the motor when listening to music. Will it work with 4 kinetik 2400 batteries if I turn the gain all the way down, and not push it or just smoke the power supply? I'm not looking to get the whole 10,000 watts out of the amp, as my subs won't handle that much anyway. I will wire it as a 4 ohm load. I had a Kicker kx2500 and a orion 900 running the subs before and never had a problem. I would crank it for a song or two but mostly be at low volume just chillin on the lake hanging out, not trying to break spl records. I guess my question is if I don't push it hard can I get away with underpowering a warhorse? Has anyone ever done it? I know they recommend 8 batteries and 2 big alternators that's just not going to happen. I do not plan on pushing it hard enough to justify the added weight. Every 100 pounds in my boat drops 2 mph

Re: Anyone have real world experience with a Kicker Warhorse ?

Warhorse is a push pull amp. You have to have DVC subs otherwise you cannot hook them up. 1 channel is hooked up to each vc. Running 2 different kind/size subs will cause issues with sound quality as well. I am interested how you will wire 6 subs to a 4 ohm load, and do you mean 4 ohm on each channel or...

If you got it "dirt cheap", just sell it for a profit and buy an amp that will do what you need it to.

Ok,thanks for the reply. With the two L7s (2 x 4 Ohm ea speaker) =2 ohm , and the 4 infinitys (1 x 4 ohm ea speaker) = 4 ohm , you are right I would not be able to run it 4 ohm. Looks like it would be 3 ohm . I was thinking I could run it like a regular amp and with a combination of parallel and series connections get it in the ballpark, as far as ohm load and run with it.Thanks for pointing that out. My theory is that 1 big amp should be better than 2 medium amps. Its not cranked up all the way does it still need the current of 8 batteries, or at half throttle will it be ok with 4 as long as I have an accurate volt meter and it doesn't drop below 11 v ?I feel like it would be a good choice. I am asking because I don't know. I want to use it not sell it. I got it on a buddy deal and if I turned around and sold it I would feel like a took advantage of him.

I think a warhorse running 2 l7s is a waste of space I would rather hook them back to the orion and not worry about it as it would waaaaay over power them. Maybe I should ask" has anyone ever run a warhorse at 1/2 wattage with 4 batteries". That is what I am trying to do. I do appreciate the reply as I know now that it can be done with 2 batteries and I am guessing there were times you sat with the engine idling so the alternators were not putting much into the system.

Re: Anyone have real world experience with a Kicker Warhorse ?

The biggest complaint with the Warhorse is that it is a very finicky amp. I would sell/trade it off or set it to the side for a larger build later on.

It's certainly a very non-ideal amp for your situation. @slammedincouch ; has one though, maybe he could help. (he hates it)

lets just say my saz 4500 did better than the warhorse with the same subs and electrical .the warhorse does rated at 2 ohms so you'll need to run it at 4 ohms if possible and turn the gains down

My Warhorse experience has been something similar to having an ex wife, which you share a child with. You hate her almost all the time, but you can't get rid of her because of the circumstances.

We (Warhorse and I) are on good terms at the moment. Sell it and get a nicer pair of amps that will suit you.

I'm running mine at 2/3 it's full output on 3 batts (with an alternator). You don't want 5k on those L7s. They wouldn't last a day.
