Re: US Amps 2000x Need opinions ASAP
I ran a 2000X with 2 12" Premier TS-W2000SPL for quite a while, best class A/B amp that I've ever used. I even used it to run a set of component speakers and the sound was hella clean. Yes it does run really hot, yes it is pretty inefficient but it is an awesome amp. The 2000X was one of the most powerful amp on the market when it first came out ~12 years ago, these used to post up in the lanes cooking up great SPL numbers, but it is getting to the point where technicians don't like to fix them (everyone said it's a PITA) and there are more affordable class D alternatives these days. However, this amp will beat down any 2000 watts RMS amps from today, and probably kick their dog too.
I still have the car audio magazine that tested one and they got:
12.5v - 1685 watts @ 4 ohms resistive load
14.4v - 2100 watts @ 4 ohms resistive load
14.4v - 3010 watts @ 5.3 ohms reactive load*
*They used an Audiobahn AW1508X as a reactive load.
Idle current - 1.05 amps
Power consumption - 235 amps unclipped @ 12.5v
THD - 0.014% @ 4 ohms
S/N ratio - 97dB
Frequency response - 10Hz - 50KHz
Damping factor - 900 @ 100Hz
1/3rd power efficiency - 34%
Full power efficiency - 62%
Remember the USA-2000X is only stable down to 4 ohms bridged (2 ohms stereo) whereas the USA-2000 is stable down to 2 ohms bridged and 1 ohm stereo. They're the same amp just but with different settings and sometimes people get that mixed up. The 2000X do not like going lower than its rated impedance and it will happily put up a smoke show through its clear, 1/16" thick and increasingly hard-to-find plexiglass (I had a local shop custom cut me a piece for my 2000X). I would get that repaired and either use it or sell it, they go anywhere from $350 to $500ish on eBay.
