Been out of the game, looking for amp suggestions.
Hello everyone!
I used to be really into car audio in late 90's, early 2000's but fell out of it. Back then I'd use nothing but Phoenix Gold amps, but it looks like they kind of went down the toilet after then.
I still have a big 15" subwoofer laying around and figured I'd pop it in my car. It's dual voice coil but I'll have to go measure it to figure what impedance each coil is. 500 watt RMS rating (but I used to have 900+ going to it no problem).
I'm looking for an amp to power it. What good brands now have solid entry level lines? Something comparable to how the old Phoenix Gold XS series were. I'm open to Class D.
Thanks!

Hifonics is solid on a budget. What's your exact budget and how much power do you wanna run to it?
Re: Been out of the game, looking for amp suggestions.
in before the audip pipe huggers hifonics for budget here as well
Re: Been out of the game, looking for amp suggestions.
I think aiming for its 500 watt RMS target is a good start. Currently have stock Bose system so it won't take much to overpower it. I'd prefer to stay under $250 if possible.
Hifonics was one of the better "Best Buy" brands back then. Good to see they are still in that same field. Something like the Brutus decent? Only $152 on Amazon.
That is a lot of power for cheap. A lot cheaper than the ZPA 0.5 that used to run it!

http://www.audioque.com/AQ750-Amplifier_p_46.html this would also be a better built amp and they are under rated :)
Re: Been out of the game, looking for amp suggestions.
The brutus will be nice but the AQ will be better in every aspect.
Re: Been out of the game, looking for amp suggestions.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check out that AQ amp as well. Still under my budget so if it is better, why not? Just need to check the impedance now before I move on.

AQ amps are teh *****, owned 2 2200s and a 1200 myself, under rated, put out power no matter what, their tanks..
