Why can't companies do DMM values for us like JL does?
I notice JL has a tutorial for setting gains with a dmm and they provide you a table with all their amplifiers and respective ohm loads and what to set them at.
Every company should do this for us; JL earns my respect there. Just an idea, i cant fork out the money for a JL slash amp lol
Re: Why can't companies do DMM values for us like JL does?
its easy to use a dmm but all that does is give you a ball park view of what your putting out unless your burping at a certain freq.

lol u cant do the math urself? actually u dont even have to do it, google will do it for you.

It's not that i can't. But as said earlier the number is just a figurative, a guess. JL actually does the numbers based on their amp regardless of the watts. The number you get from the tutorials arent geared towards your amp. not every amp puts out clean wattage to the same voltage.
JL did the testing on THEIR amps and did the numbers based on it

When JL tested their amps, they saw what voltage at what impedence is the perfect one to set as.

The new JBL GTO EZ amplifiers come with a light that indicates clipping and a test CD for setting gains. Pretty neat idea.
Re: Why can't companies do DMM values for us like JL does?
it's as easy as adding a clipping circuit..

two amps from the same line/brand aren't going to do the same exact power, so even the figure that JL gives you is an approximate setting. Ever see how much birthsheets from the same amp line can differ? Usually not enough to be audible..but you could still possibly have one amp that produces a couple hundred watts over the other. I'm guessing the JL setting is probably based on an average output.. meaning you could possibly get a bit more out of the amp than what their suggested setting is.
Re: Why can't companies do DMM values for us like JL does?
the jl slash 1000/1 amp is set to exactly 1000w if you use there method but it actually puts out a little more. jl give this tutorial just to help u no blow your stuff but really they baby there amps this way. i would just buy a dd-1 from steve meade and live with the fact that im using a product release by a man i dislike.

At least all he has is marketing rights, and no actual help in the development of it. Tony D'amoure or whatever of D'amoure Engineering designed it.
It works. People hate Meade and thats ok...all he is doing is marketing it.
It's just like denim.....a fabric manufacturer makes different types of denim. The same denim can be in walmart jeans as DKNY or Parasuco jeans.....but yet you pay $80-100 more for the name on the marketing agent.

yea i here you but i still dont like that when i do buy the thing it puts money in his pockets. from what i know he really hasnt worked for anything he has it was all kinda just givin to him. youtube stardom for doing hair tricks i have done that and put up bigger numbers, i dont know what makes his system so special

Just think of it this way if you were in his shoes you be the most hated on douche in the car audio world! Now you wouldn't want that would you? So just be happy your louder and not quite as famous.
Re: Why can't companies do DMM values for us like JL does?
trust me i dont want to be him i have enough going on to put up with fame
Re: Why can't companies do DMM values for us like JL does?
the numbers J.L. post are still in accurate as you have no way of telling what impedance the amp is actually seeing because of impedance rise.
