    watts (vs) volts

I was wondering is there were any way to calculate if a amp delivers (xamout) of watts @ 14 volts it would deliver (xamount) at 12 volts, and viseversa, i am going to try out crunch blackmaxx amps and i know they are rated @ 14volts (which my car delivers when started) but what do they do at 12volts ? i am looking @ the blx2000d 1200x1 @ 2 ohms (1ohm stable @ 2000x1) and the blx4175, 175 x4 @ 4ohms (2ohm stable @ 350x4)

blx2000d would power my RE hc 12'
    blx4175 would power 2sets of cdt cL61's

i'm sure they produce the power they advertise but @ 14v, 12v or 13v is another story.....

The difference will be very small and nigh inaudible. Don't concern yourself with numbers so much.

I believe............that their is a formula and you can find it in one of Crutchfields Stereo Installation Manual in which you can just call them and they will send you one for free.

well if it will be small, and somewhat not noticeable, then what the hay, i mean i've heard mixed reviews about crunch blackmaxx amps but for the price it's worth checking out..

    Re: watts (vs) volts

You also need to know if the amp uses regulated internal power supplies or not. If it's regulated, there's no difference at all.

Otherwise it depends on the amp design. You can't assume some standard ratio, it doesn't apply to all designs.

    Re: watts (vs) volts

depending on the quality of the amp, there can be a huge difference

if an amp is rated at 1000 watts @ 14.4 volts..

depending on quality.. it might produce anywhere from 650-980 @ 12 volts

so yes, volts are very important

    Re: watts (vs) volts

That's still only a 1-2 dB difference in max output. Barely audible. Now if you are competing that is a different story...
