    Hifonics HFi1000.1D versus Audiopipe APSM-1500

    Hey all. In my other threat a bunch of people recommended the Audiopipe APSM-1500 for me as opposed to the Hifonics HFi1000.1D.

    I just wanted to get a general consensus on the matter. I actually ended up ordering both and am going to return the opposite one from what you all suggest. The place I ordered from has a full refund so I'm not worried about that.

    The subs for the amp are two Kenwood 12 kfc-w112s, 200rms 800peak single 8ohm subs. So I'd be hooking it up parallel @ 4ohm 400w RMS. It sounds like both amps should be able to drive these things well.

    The other problem is my old amp which was a Sony Xplod with 340w x 1 RMS @ 4ohm was causing my lights to dim, even after doing the Big 3.

    Would either of these new ones: The Hifonics or the Audiopipe make it even harder on my electrical? I have a 95amp alt and the Big 3 done, but I was still getting some dim with the Sony.

    Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

    @CAT MAN @dross93ranger ,
    When you guys say that is it like by a little bit or would it be considerably better than a Sony Xplod 800w max 2-channel and that Hifonics?

    You should not have had any dimming. Check the grounds and set your gain right.

    Yea I thought that was weird too. Not only that but I had 250w RMS x1 @4ohm amp before the Sony one, and that one caused dimming as well. And all of it was installed professionally so there shouldn't have been any problems :/.

    Any other ideas? I want to use that Audiopipe amp but I'm worried about extreme voltage problems if I was already having them with an amp that hardly uses any power.

    I would check the grounds, but to be completely honest I don't know how to access them. It's kind of embarrassing, but I'm still a noobie to car audio.

    Thats more then likely the problem. Did you set the gain right or just turn it up?

    The shop set the gain. But for the Audiopipe one arriving later this week I purchased a DMM to set it up myself, using http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...7/RMSchart.jpg as a guide to achieve the 40v AC.

    However still it's three times the power as something that was causing dimming, and the audio shop I went to is very reputable and what-not so I feel like the ground should have been fine. That being said I'll check it out when I install this new one, but this is the first amp I'm installing myself so I'm a bit worried about it destroying my car's electrical. Like I said the gain will be set right but if it still causes dimming I just don't have the access to funds for a new battery or HO Alt right now.

    @av83 ,

    But isn't it weird how my old amp (250w RMS) and that newer sony one (340w RMS) both caused dimming? I had two different shops install both builds. I'm just worried the new AP APSM-1500 will take a crap on my electrical. It doesn't seem like it is much power though? Do you think it would be any worse on my car's electrical than the class A/B Sony that when bridged would consistently stay hot? Even though it's more watts, it's a Class D and supposedly runs cooler...

    What do you guys think? My alt is 95 amps, is that enough to maintain an APSM-1500?

    Any number of things could have caused that dimming. But as long as your alt and battery are in good shape, you have good grounds, and your gains are set right, you will be fine. A/B amps consume more amperage to produce the same wattage as a class D, as well.
