    Very perplexed.....Help .....please......anyone.....

Folks I have come here because I have an issue that has me stumped. I've been installing my own systems for years, but this is the last step before taking it to the pros(shop). Please note this system has been installed and functioning properly for 14 months. About 2 weeks ago, I was sitting in the driveway listening to some tunes when out of the blue, no sound. Head unit is still on and functioning, but nothing coming out. Now, I determined it was not the head unit(hooked up another, same results).
When I power up, there is a brief blurp of sound then BOTH amps shutdown.
Now, I manage to talk to someone at the car audio place for a few minutes, and he says something is grounded, my friend (who is the most knowledgeable person I know about this stuff)says something is NOT grounded.
I ran a new trigger wire, not it. I moved the main ground(was grounded to the floor w/a bolt) also not the problem.
Can a bad input cable, or a bad skr wire cause this type of shutdown?
    Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Are the amps showing any kind of protection light after shutdown?

I would unhook the positive wire from one amp at a time to see if the other one powers up....Maybe you can narrow it down to which amp has the issue...

Yes the lights on both amps stay on. The guy at the shop said both amps are going into "protection" mode.

Easiest way will be to take your wiring out and reinstall it. It sounds like either you have a connection problem or you fried both amps simultaneously which doesn't seem likely

    Re: Very perplexed.....Help .....please......anyone.....

I had the same problem. It's more than likely that one of your speakers is either blown (in my case) and is causing a short within the speaker, or there is a direct short to ground somewhere in the wiring that is causing the amps to go into protection mode to prevent damage(it's annoying as hell but a great feature). Check all your wiring going OUT of the amp to make sure there's no damage or crimping. But just because you dont SEE a grounded wire doesn't mean the speakers aren't grounding themselves. A good place to start is to disconnect individual speaker wire from the amp one at a time and see if it starts playing when one is disconnected. I was jamming in my car with only 3 speakers till my replacement came in. Odds that there are two or more damaged speakers is pretty slim. Hope this helped.

I didn't realize that one grounded speaker, could take out both amps.

are your amps remotely turned on through the rca's?if there not then trace your power wire and make sure its not making contact somewhere.check your fuse block if you have one . check all speaker leads to make sure one hasnt come loose and grounded.protection mode is usually one of 2 things impedence or voltage so that is where i would start.

    Re: Very perplexed.....Help .....please......anyone.....

Both amps are turned on through a trigger wire from the head unit. I replaced that w/no change.
I'm getting a full 13v all the way from the Batt. through the main fuse(at batt.), through the fuse block, all the way to the amps.
But still, can one bad speaker lead take out both amps? The only 2 things they share(besides the head unit) is the ground, and the trigger.
I will, one at a time, remove the speaker leads, and check that way.

    Re: Very perplexed.....Help .....please......anyone.....

UPDATE...I have removed the line ins and the speaker leads individually and to no avail. I have the same result, amp plays for approx. 3-5 sec. then goes into protect mode.

Make sure the amps have a GOOD proper ground. Improper ground would cause both amps to go into protect.

    Re: Very perplexed.....Help .....please......anyone.....

The amps are grounded to the truck floor with a bolt and 12 ga cable. However while I was doing the before mentioned tests, they were grounded to the Battery.
Remember, this system has been in use for over a year, and when it went south, I was sitting in the driveway, in acc mode( not really cranking on it)

I have to add at this point, both amps are going into "protect" mode, and they are doing it when standing alone(removing fuses one at a time from the fuse block). Does this mean it could be something from the Pre-amp side.

    Re: Very perplexed.....Help .....please......anyone.....

    Friend had something similar happen.

Try pulling the amp and running temp power, ground and remote off of the battery. (no rca and no speaker)

all you are looking for is the amp not to go into protect. if that works then hook them back up to your existing installed wire with no rca and no speaker. power back up and if they go back to protect ya got a short somewhere.

prob be a good time to check your subs while ya got the amps out especially looking for burnt tensle leads. or as suggested check the subs first.

no need to rewire if ya got burnt subs or a bad amp
