I don't know man. A lot of people say a watt is a watt, and all amps sound the same un-clipped. I don't believe that at all though.

Yeah, a watt is a watt, BUT, what does a watt sound like?
I believe 500 watss IS 500 watts, when it comes to POWER, but SQ to me is TOTALLY different. I don't see how 2 500watt amps can have different internals and sound the exact same. To me, damping factors plays a big roll in SQ for deep bass.
I had a trash 1300wrms Ultimate 1300S and the lows were "loose" and "faint", but with the exact same songs with my PG 1200.1 and my Brutus 1500D, the lows were "tighter" and way more "powerful" feeling.

Anyway....I believe damping factors play a big roll in low bass reproduction, and the JL's have damping factors 500 and over. The Hifonics have like 150. But I think after a certain point the damping factor doesn't really matter, or is sufficient enough. 150 is excellent, 500 is like WHOA, but you might not even detect the difference since they are both high up there. But if one were like 50 or something, you'd probably be able to tell the differnce between that amp and the 150, or between that amp and the 500.

    Hey, just my opinion.

Re: SQ: JL audio Vs Hifonics Amps

a watt is a watt. its all the other features in the amp that makes it sound different. (ex. crossover) the JL amps are better IMO, but ihave used the zx6400 and you will not be disappointed. i regret ever selling the thing compared to my autotek amps now. if your an SQ freak on a budget, id say get the hifonics amps and put the leftover money into some sound deadening or maybe a nicer install. if your install *****, your entire system will ****, no matter what equipment you are using.

Which do u think is better WarDrumz? Ive heard the JL audio amps in the store and I really liked how clean they were with no noticeable distortion however they were really expensive around 350 for highs and 400 for bass which sounds like too much to me. Do yall think I will be able to notice a difference in SQ between the JL and hifonics? I mean if not then it would be a big waste of money to go with the JL's.

I don't think you'll hear a difference between the 2. My Hifonics sounds great.

I really don't know what BETTER is. It depends on which amp has the features your looking for for your particular setup. But I'd go with the Hifonics. Cheaper, as in price, and you probably won't even hear an audible difference.

Re: SQ: JL audio Vs Hifonics Amps

6400 vs 300/4 I think is a toss-up. Power is virtually identical, I wouldn't be surprised if the Hifonics would actually measure a little higher. JL would get the edge in controls. And I'm guessing the JL would be quite a bit more expensive. If it were me I'd probably go with the Hifonics, but if I were trying to impress judges or something JL would probably be worth the extra $$

Sub amps - comparing both at their optimal impedance you get 1000 watts from the Hifonics and 500 from the JL. Assuming the subs being powered can make use of 1000 watts I'd take the Hifonics every time.

Are you guys kidding or what?

I get sick and tired of hearing about the Hifonics. There is too much out there to just be stuck on just one **** brand.

The only way I would take a Hifonics amp over a JL amp is if budget was an issue.

and to about 95% of the caraudio.com community, budget is an issue. almost everybody here would take the jl over a hifonics, but is it worth the extra money? i don't think it is.

this is the first time i've seen a thread which mentioned both JL and Hifonics and somebody is actually complaining about people raving about Hifonics. I guess this is a good thing, people always complained about the JL people. Your telling me that if you had a JL amp sending 500watts to a sub and then a hifonics amp sending 1000watts to a sub that can handle it, the setup with the JL amp would sound better? i don't think so. everybody has their own opinion, which is why everybody has differnt setups. i'm not saying your wrong or you are right. both companies are successful, so that makes me believe that they are both right.

I just got my PG Tantrum and am stoked about it. I have been a long time JL buyer, and just recently made the change. It took alot too, but I am not dissapointed by any means.

Re: SQ: JL audio Vs Hifonics Amps

IMO, id like to say i run JL, as opposed to I run Hifonics the cheesiest sounding brand name amp out there. Thats if you want to call it name brand. Id buy something of better quality at a cheaper price than the both of them. If you like Hifonics no offense to you, if your happy thats what matters.
