I know my amp is putting out 1500w at 1ohm, my question is will I get better SQ running it in 4 ohm with 1600w(bl doubles)

I do, I have it running @ 2ohms. I don't have anything to compare it to, but i do know i have the level at about 1/2 and the remote knob about 1/3 and my subs are pounding ((2) 12" kicker comp vr's)

I also wanted to note about the wattage discrepancys, i noticed that also, but then i realized that when it is rated less than 1500 1000 500 (1ohm,2ohm,4ohm respectively) that it usually means it isn't @14.4v

I would like to comment that with LOW frequencies such as bass you won't notice much of a difference at all if any in SQ.

then what makes one amp cost $600+ whereas the hifonics can easily be had for $250 on ebay? assuming both amps produce the same amount of watts.

Efficiency is one part of cost. How efficiently does the amp produce the power. That is a big indicator in cost (not the only indicator, but one of them)

Alot of times you're just paying for a name or more power. What I was saying is that you lower frequencies are LESS audible than higher frequencies. Thats all.

What does that have to do with what I was talking about.??

Your question earlier in this thread was would you get better SQ by going with 4 ohm instead of 1 ohm. The answer is YES with less resistance comes more distortion and with more resistance less distortion. But with lower frequencies such as bass the difference would not be very audible.

As far as SPL competitors are concerned........I have NO idea how they wire their subs. I was under the impression that they would wire them in parallel for higher dBs but I really couldn't tell ya. Maybe an SPL competitor will read this and answer that question. Hope I answered atleast one of your questions.
