is this amp too much for my sub??

i bought a pg tantrum 1200.1 thinking it was 1200 watts rms @ 2ohms but the birth sheet say 1494 @ 2ohms. i want it to run an idmax 12 which is only rated at 1000. i figured if i kept my gains down 1200 would be all right but i'm not sure if 1500 will be. it is also rated at like 14.5 volts or something like that. i have a 200 amp alt. i will install but will i be constantly running at that high of volts?

In most cases I'd say you were fine...even with the good HO alternator.

Watch your gains and look for signs of thermal wear. Also if you are in a sealed enclosure I probably wouldnt worry about it at all.

I used to spend a lot of my free time here. It was fun I suppose. Still rocking the 9515 and Better Audio amp haha.

    How's incriminator stuff these days?

it's a ported box about 2.65-2.7 ft^3 after all displacement tuned to around 29-30 hz. i don't plan to use any bass boost at all and i'll keep my gains down so i should be fine? another question what are the signs of thermal wear?
