amp for 3 Alpine Type r-12?

I'm putting 3 alpine r-12's in my Wrangler (2 down fire, one visible) and need to know what a good amp to push them would be. could someone give me some insight? I have one pre-amp left on my deck, dont know if that helps. Would I be able to run a mono and a 2 channel?

Someone please help out a car audio noob... Thanks,
    -Tyler

Re: amp for 3 Alpine Type r-12?

It wont work... the Type R's are dual 4ohm VC's. You wont be able to wire it correctly to any amp.

My calculations come out to 2.67ohms...

Re: amp for 3 Alpine Type r-12?

u can get anywhere from like 1.34-3 ohms (according to rockfords wiring wizard), depending all on if there SVC or DVC and how many ohms they are

Car - 04' Honda Civic Si, silver

    Deck - Clarion ProAudio DXZ835MP
    Fronts - Alpine Type-R SPR-136A (5.25" comps w/ 1" tweet)
    Speaker Amp - MTX Thunder404
Sub - 1x Rockford Fosgate RFP3412 ported box
Sub Amp - Rockford Fosgate Punch 150S
    Wiring - power/ground 4guage, speaker 16guage

Re: amp for 3 Alpine Type r-12?

it would be like $540 or so for 3 JBL600.1's

it might be pricey, but leaves you ALOT of room for upgrade in the future. the type R's are 300RMS, but if you decided to upgrade let's say....3 RE SE12's (600W RMS) the JBL600.1's could handle these very well.

Re: amp for 3 Alpine Type r-12?

A good purchase, although pricey, would be a JL Audio 1000/1. It is regulated, so it puts out the same amount of power between 1.5 and 4 ohms. Would be a good match.

Re: amp for 3 Alpine Type r-12?

    I dont have the money for a JL 1000/1. I am really thinking about the 3 JBL's. Or a 300w x2 @ 4 ohm and a JBL...

Re: amp for 3 Alpine Type r-12?

i don't know a ton about alll the wiring specifics, but why not a Hifonics Brutus BX1500D. 1500x1 @1ohm, 1000x1@2ohm, and 750x1@4ohm. it also leaves you with ALOT of room if you decide to upgrade in the future.

Re: amp for 3 Alpine Type r-12?

You can buy 2 diff types of type r's.. I have 2 swr1221d's that are dvc 2 ohm. There is also a swrd1241d that is dvc 4ohm. I say figure out what amp u want and then look to see either to getthe swr1221d or the swr1241d.
