Fixing Broken Car Amps

The JBL amp powers on but thats about it. I opened it up and you see that some stuff fried. I got from friend who decided to let a shop install it instead of me and they hooked it up wrong.

Do you fix us amps? I managed to **** up both my md2d and md43 over the weekend. The md43 wont power on, reads ground at the remote lead and I heard a pop from inside the case. The md2d still comes on but Im getting a weird signal from it, like a ac wave being sent to the subs and it pops hard when it comes on. So hard it pushed one sub to pop the spider loose. I also have a avh-p6600dvd pioneer that wont show a picture when playing a dvd, screen works with everything else and the sound works. Do you work on those also?

Good luck with that! I have dabbled and succesfully repaired a few amps, those had obvious signs of distress, I simply changed the row of mosfets which contained the clearly burnt circuit and presto.. That was luck as I have no way of actually diagnosing a not so obvious problem..

I somehow manage to fix almost anything I put my mind to (except the old hag, had to turn in my lease, too many miles on her)

I started tinkering as soon as I was old enough to twist a screwdriver (age 4, used to take my toys apart to see what makes them tick, sometimes managed to get them back together, sometimes not.. Dad would revel in it, Mom would beat me I have been fixing all of our appliances since I was 12, not buying an extended warranty? It's a rule of thumb with us..

I'd like to go to school for this, but I would have to learn math first, plus at 40 years of age, my brain has solidified into an unyielding mass of shitturd, no longer absorbent.. I fall asleep reading anything that isn't pornographic or written on the subject of cars or music.. (much as most of you are probably falling asleep at this moment.. Good God, enough babble here...

Repairing something that most people would junk? I'll tell you, the feeling associated with a successful repair? (Even though I often end up with extra screws) there is no other feeling like it in the world!

Even though the amp worked, I wouldn't exactly call that a successful repair. Most of the time if you have mosfets fail they send large amounts of current through their associated resistors and damage them. It may work now but it's probably not going to be all that reliable in the long run...

Mike, how do we proceed? I would like to send you a few amps.. PPI AX400, Mmats D2000 and possibly 3 JBL GTOs.. Just need them repaired, no mods.. High quality replacement parts would be the preference though. How do we act?

BTW, I want to sell the Hifonics Zues VII.. Interested? If so I'll provide the photobucket link, lots of pics up there, the amp is rough so I will let it go cheap. I've also got a nice pair of PPI A1200.2s in good condition, warranty stickers intact, internals are presumably cherry, unmolested at the very least, both include all the plugs, plumbing for the optional cooling system is installed (done by PPI) and I have a spacer/bridge connector (connects the amps together, with a bit of rigging can be used even with the plumbing left intact)

I thought you may be interested, something about the comment you made regarding my Zues amp led me to believe as much, not sure why.. Always the opportunist, here I am with an inquiry on amp repair in your thread while attempting to solicit my wares to you Anyway PLMK if you're interested and let me know how we can get the ball rolling with the repairs.. If this works out, I will keep you very busy my friend!!

hey i have 2 kenwood kac-x1r that i need repair, one turns on but when u crank the volume it shuts off, the other will turn on but goes into short mode. I also have a kenwood kac-x4r which is shot as well. would like all three repaired. I also have a jbl gto14001 and a gto 1200.ii thats need repair. since i live in detroit, i have no problem shipping them after x-mas just send me contact and shipping info. i also have a soundstream ref amp, forgot the model but its a 4 channel that i read is known for going up in smoke. so first i wanna send my kenwoods and go from there. pm me here or send email to ibesp@yahoo.com. heck if possible i might drive up if your turn around is that quick and i can wait for them. also is there any mods available for the x1r?

same boat as you. although i live right up the street from him so im not worried about getting it back. parts are on backorder apparently. hoping to get my amp soon tho!!!
