Does 16v make a world of difference?

Well, I'm doing my best to make up a good SQ system. I've read a lot about how amps can't really affect Sound Quality and I believe it. I am kind of wondering about the 16 volts the Zapco amps can do. I want to get a good amp for my components and I would be willing to save up for a little while longer if the 16 volts makes a good deal of difference over 4v. I also don't really want to spend $500 more on an amp that only makes a marginal difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Amps dont make the voltage, your alternator does. You are thinking about pre-out voltage from a head unit. Most head units dont go past 4, but there are some that do the 6v and 8v but usually wont go higher. Youll need a line driver if you want to boost up the pre-out voltage.
Also zapco makes AWESOME amps. usually can never go wrong with picking zapco.

Yeah sorry, meant the preout voltage. As far as I understand it the symbilink that goes with the zapco amps acts just like a line driver and boosts the deck voltage to the amp. Would it be better just to get a cheaper amp and a line driver?

    Cheaper? Probably.
Better? In terms of what? Zapco is an awesome company and if it comes with the line driver, you basicly cant go wrong. Sure they are expensive but you get what you pay for. Thats for sure.
If i recall correctly its like 8v nominal, 16 peak. Im probably wrong, but it was something im remembering from seeing...

16V preouts is unheard of, ppl have problems sometimes with 8 volt input, it causes the amp to clip at moderate volumes!! call zapco and ask them. 4v is alot, 8 volt is more than enuff!!!

well companies like zapco and soundstream have balanced line converters, like basicly line drivers, it sends a balanced signal from the head unit to the amps, Zapcos is call Smibylink (spelling)

Re: Does 16v make a world of difference?

I'm getting ready to use a 30 eq with a built in 8v line driver, so it's going to cause my amps to clip at low volume levels? If that's the case what's the point of it being 8volts?
