Quick little question, Yes or NO?

OK guys I ordered a nice amp from edesign (tsunami db1100). I thought that there might be some problems with my electrical system being able to handle the drain. For some unknown reason i was sent the db1800T instead for the same price. So now I have an even greater powered amp.

    My question is this...
I have a 70amp stock alt, the fuse rating on the bd1800T is 120amps.... Can I use it?

Oh by the way, I will also be having an RF Punch 300S amp running too....

how do you use your car? does it have power windows airconditioning? i would suggest getting the alt re wound to about 90- 105 amps and get a optima red top and maybe add a cap AFTER the other 2 things have been done (but doubt you would need it. most automotive electrical shops do this for under 120 bucks (the rewind/build) and the red top goes for 150 and under. if u plan on doing spl comps a bigger new alt wouldnt be a bad choice . lol and that new amp should pound those subs into mechanical failure lol

I say hook it all up first, then see if it's necessary. If so, Audiolife has given you great direction, but I am a bit leery of capacitors. I've heard they work, but then again, I've heard they are useless and actually create a drain on the system. But if it works for you, koo.

Re: Quick little question, Yes or NO?

bigger alt, atleast 150 amps. its the only one that is permanent solution and u'll be happier. i bet that db1800t will draw between 40-60 amps continuously and then punch will draw like 10-15. definitely bigger if u don't want to be stranded somewhere. caps r useless, they just add another load to your alternator.

Re: Quick little question, Yes or NO?

150 would be over kill unless he plans are being a volume master or competeing in spl. besides that if he really "pushes" that amp he wont have any subs left

should be fine. when i say this i am being honest as i can. sure a bigger alt is nice but costly. in alot of cases just beefing it up is good enough. i say this as someone who (in younger days) beat the crap out of my stuff too what i am now an accurate listener. we all crank it from time to time but if/when i becomes a problem as a daily driver then you need to really sit back and figure what you really want out. its always cheaper doing it right 1 time than patching it up 2 or 3 times. if you want a bigger alt it wont hurt anything but remember a hi po alt wont last as long as a beefed up stock alt mile after mile. my old system drew 100 + amps of current and was not very efficient at all and i was totally fine with 105 amp alt.

Re: Quick little question, Yes or NO?

it does something ..and i bet its different than what people tell you (the people who sold it) its a hi speed voltage bridge. if your car doesnt act funny without it it will be ok to use it lol because then its doing its job. if your lights go stupid with out it beef up the alt and the battery then add the cap. the cap is suppost to bridge a SPEED bridge in your charging system because its faster than the alt or battery. in most cases it isnt noticable. if you are using a cap to "stop your lights from dimming" you are buying a band aid for roughly the costs of just fixxing/beefing up the alt.

Re: Quick little question, Yes or NO?

i see i see! So i should unhook it and see what happens then if my car is fine without it then i should run it...if lights dim and what not without it i should leave it out get a better battery and alt upgade and then use it.....Correct?

Re: Quick little question, Yes or NO?

i use a JBL 1200 and a profile 200 watt amp and it causes dimmage at only very high volumes on completely stock electrical and 90amp(i think) alt. with 1800 watts, and 70amp alt. ur gona have some problems. def. upgrade at least to 100amp.
