Need some advice on a dry cell battery.

    Hey guys..

I went to a local battery shop yesterday, and asked them if they had a dry-cell battery for my system. The best thing they had was a "Blue top" Optima battery? Well when i asked him how to hook up my battery to run just my stereo off it, he gave me the 30 minute ordeal on how i would need to upgrade my alternator just to be able to keep both my regular battery, and my optima battery charged. Then he tried to get me to purchase a $100 external battery charger for the optima. I am wondering if he was right, and that i do need to upgrade my alternator if i was to get a second battery and run them in "series"? or can it be done with my stock alternator. I have a 2k2 Ford Focus, and i'm running 2 JL Audio W7's and a JL Audio 1000/1 monoblock. I noticed that with my stereo turned about roughly 3/4, the bass ***** soo much power that my car actually slows down...EVER so slightly, but i can tell. help me pleaseeeeeee!

    My Upcoming system!!!
    HU: Alpine DVA-9861
    Components: Focal 165K2P 6 1/2's
    Comps amp: Alpine PDX4.150
    Sub Amp: JL Audio 1000/1
    Subs: w7's.
    Secondary Batt: Stinger 1800
    LOT o dynamat!

You would need to do one of two things. First, you can replace the altenator with a more heavy duty model, which can handle the extra load of a second battery. Second, have the existing altenator looked at by a altenator professional (yellow pages) and he can tell you how many winds can be added to give you however much more power. Your existing altenator should have a label telling you the current output power.

Thanks alot Meola..i think that the later of the two should most likely be the cheapest, and i'll head that route! Thanks again
