Icon32 Ya'll Amp Gains Set to What

I know how to set an amp gain, first of all. I am just curious as to how far most of you have your amp gains up that's all. Sometimes when you play music it is kinda hard to tell when you are distorting because most setups you hear distort somewhat anyway. So, some people may have their gains up too high as it is but their setup is okay. Well, I have mine set half-way and sometimes I wonder if I can go any higher up.

Even if the subs don't distort when the gains are set high, the bass would be overwhelming. I adjust to how it sounds like from the driver's seat.

I've got the gain on my 800.2 set at about half with no problems. I could probably turn it up in fact.

I have my 800.2 set almost all the way down. It only goes down to 6v and i have 8v preouts.

Does the 800.2 have automatic clipping protection. because i turned the gain up before and the amp would shut off for a while or until i pulled the RCA's and pluged them back in??

I have mine set at about half way, maybe even less. I could turn it up more, but I need to get an amp for the components first.

Is it possible to use a voltage meter to test and see what the exact voltage is on the preamp inputs on the amps and the preamp outputs of the deck? THis thought passed through my mind today. I assume that I have to turn the headunits volume up 3/4 of full volume.

I guess so, but I also think that the voltage might vary depending on what volume the hu is on.

Also, wouldn't you need to run a constant signal to maintain the voltage?

Now wait for someone knowledgable to come in and tell me I'm wrong..:P

I'll play a cd then I'll check the rca's that come off the deck. THen I'll See if I can get a reading from the rca inputs on the amp and see what I ge. I'll turn the hu 3/4 so that I get the highest voltage reading because I won't be playing above 3/4 volume
If I feel comfortable playing with my stereo out in front of my house today I'll try it, otherwise I won't because I'll fear someone seeing my amp with the back seat down as I do it. ONce again I hate my neighborhood.

best way to do it is set up an o-scope on the rcas.(makesure speakers are unplugged) And then put a test tone through. Turn everything to the highest you would listen to it(volume, bass, whatnot). Then turn the gain just below the point where you see the AC signal clipping. Your speakers will never clip then.
    Yea!!

but not to many people have an o-scope lying around
