    Recommendations Needed

What's happening everyone? Well, I'm currently in the planning stages for the wife's '05 tC and I was looking for some amplifier recommendations. I'm gonna be installing an AA Assassin 10 in a 1.0 cubic foot sealed box, and I was wondering what budget amp you guys would recommend. Now, I know it takes great equipment to make great sound, but you married guys know as well as I, the wife will not approve of expensive equipment. So, I'm limited to stuff like Power Acoustik. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with it, I have an LT series running my front stage and it sounds awesome! Just wondering what amps you guys would recommend for this sub. I'm looking for 400 watts RMS, and since it is going into the wife's car, it can't be some butt ugly slab. Also trying to keep the price below $150. Any amps out there that you guys know of that will fit those criteria, other than the obvious Power Acoustik? I know there's a lot of brands, like Lanzar, and Profile, just looking to see what you guys think. Thanks!

There you go. To the other guy who gave the other 3 suggestions, don't suggest multi-channel amps for subwoofers in the future unless there is no other alternative

Just wondering, why do you say no multi-channel amps for my specific purpose? I really didn't see a problem running a 2 channel amp bridged considering I'm only going to be running a single 4 ohm subwoofer. I know most people want the mono amps so if they decide to add more subs, they can just drop the ohm load and it will be fine. But in my case, there is virtually zero chance I will add another sub to this system, so it will always be run at 4 ohms. There should be no harm in using a 2 channel amp bridged to the sub. That's what I have in my truck, a Cobalt 702 bridged to my DC-10, and it kicks. Plus it would also have the added benefit of being cheaper, as the mono amps do tend to cost more. And this is for the wife, so she's not gonna let me spend more than absolutely necessary. If she would, I would be looking for Audison or Zapco!

    Re: Recommendations Needed

It's not that you can't use them, it's just that mono amps work better for this application. Most mono amps nowadays are class d, which are far more efficient than class a/b (which is what most multi-channel amps are). He doesn't need a multi-channel, so why not get an amp that will be less drain on the vehicle's electric system? The more drain you create on the electrical system, the more your car has to work to keep up. That translates to less horsepower and mor gas consumption. It may not be huge, but it will make a difference. And since you can get a mono amp in your price range, I see no reason to go with a multi-channel.

The kenwood amp listed in the above link, is a pretty solid amp. I installed one for my stepson a year ago. It is pushing two 10" Audiobahn Performer subs (I know, I know everyone hates Audiobahn, but stepson is on a budget); the amp has yet to overheat or shut off.
