Icon32 Selecting the right amp for 2 dvc 6ohm subs (12w6's)

Hi I'm having a bit of a problem selecting an amp to power my two JL 12w6 dvc 6ohm subs.

There are two wiring configs i can do with them, either the coils in series and speakers in paralell (6ohm overall load), or both in paralell (1.5ohm overall load).

This presents a unique problem when selecting an amplifier.

I want to push approximately 300watts to each sub.

The amps I have looked at are:

the JL 500/1 which is stable between 1-4ohm
the MTX class D series amps

Does anyone recommend a sub that is stable at 1ohm that can push 500watts and is a class D amp, or know a sub that can push approx 500 watts at 6ohm?

    Thanks for your advice!

id go with a jbl 600.1.. 600 at 2 Ohms, but 1 ohm stable.. wire them down to 1.5 ohms to get the full 600+ out of the amp.. pretty cheap amp also.. can pick one up on ebay for about $170+ shipping..

Okay that sounds like a good idea, I did some more looking and was considering also:

Phoenix Gold Ti 800.1 (shouldnt this put out approx 400w @ 2ohm 12.5voltage and perhaps a bit more since i'd be going down to 1.5?)

    Or:

    PPI PCX1250 (1 channel, 500watts @ 2ohm with 12vdc)

Your idea about the jbl 600.1 sounds like it will provide closer to the power I was looking for though. Will it be reliable? I dont wanna kill subs/amp any time soon.

    Thanks!

it all depends on if the other 2 amps u listed are stable at one ohm??? if they are then i'd go w/ the pheonix gold amp....they are great amps......good quality and a bit more features than the jbl.....your good either way tho

I dont think PG's are rated at 1ohm, and only the highest end MTX is capable of 1ohm..

I'm really leaning towards a JBL 600.1 thanks

Tonight im taking apart truck cab and putting in my new boston accoustics and going on a dynomatting hunt.

Thanks that rules out all MTX, I was never a big fan of MTX anyways.

Any of you ever opened up a single cab 93 chevy truck with the god aweful back panels? I now understand why shops charge $120. The problem was compounded by the fact when i got my first system installed the installers cut cables, stripped screws, didnt screw everything back in, and broke all kinds of plastic parts.

After 5 hours of fenagling and dynomatting though life is good

Thanks for the help once again!
