Icon7 Amp(s) for an RE Audio 12" XXX?

    Hi there!

I have a Rockford Fosgate T5002 Power Amp, rated at 500Wx1 at 2 Ohms.

I am considering getting a 12" Resonant Engineering Audio, Series XXX subwoofer. It is rated at 1600W RMS at 2 Ohms.

    My question:

If I were to get the 1600W Subwoofer, what amp(s) would you suggest I get to power it?

Since I already have the RF amp, couldn't I daisy-chain it to another amp to power the Subwoofer?

Also, would it be necessary to get a capacitor? I would also be running an amp rated at 2x50 for the component speakers as well. Therefore, I woul dbe looking at about 1700W just for the audio system.

Thanks in advance for your help!

ok, the sub is dual2, so in actuality it is 1 ohm. you could get a eD nine.1, an Orion 1200D, a Hifonics 1605d, all kinds of stuff...I wouldnt bother on the amp as it isnt 1 ohm stable. sell it. no cap...caps are worthless...send me the money instead.

also, the box size plays a role in the power. the factory power specs are with the factory recommended box size

Re: Amp(s) for an RE Audio 12" XXX?

    Thanks for the quick response!

    -Who is eD?

-The box that contains my current 12" RE Audio SE Series Sub is built to RE's specs. Aaaaannnnndddd, the company specs for the XXX Series 12" Sub speaker box is that same as the one I have now!

So, all I would have to do is drop the Sub in the box and switch out my RF for another amp!

    Whee!

Re: Amp(s) for an RE Audio 12" XXX?

elemental designs...they make some REAL good stuff... www.edesignaudio.com/

    hmm...
1.5 and 32hz is what the RE12 calls for
2.1 and 28hz is what the XXX12 calls for
the box would be fine to drop it in for now, but for best output, you would want a new one in the future.

IF you are interested, I am selling my nine.1 (check the thread in my sig)
I would even trade the amp for your SE and some cash

Re: Amp(s) for an RE Audio 12" XXX?

Well, you could always buy a 2nd T5002 and put one on each coil I'd do that rather than switch amps, especially before switching to the eD.

I don't know what your T5002 benched at....but they should be capable of around 750-1000w RMS bridged into a 2ohm load. Put one on each coil, and you're looking at a good 1500w - 2000w RMS to the sub.

Just be sure to set the gains with a DMM so they match.

Only disadvantage is those RF's are a little less efficient than the Orion would be.

I'd take the Orion or the RF's. Skip eD.
