So long as the item is sold as it is described, and there are no problems with it that should have been stated and not omitted to begin with, it isn't his problem.
If an amp is rated to do 2kw, and that's what the seller tells you, is it his responsibility when you can only get 1.5k out of it because it's overrated? No, and in this case, it would be you not even being able to hook it up right, which is again not his responsibility.
